THE BEST CHROMER in CT is CARBON COUNTY CHROME in Milford Gabe is the owner
He is not cheap & ya get what you pay for. BUT his chrome is like a mirror & he has the BEST rep in the area

I've used International Chromium Plating in RI. They've been a family run business since 1927. They have done some amazing things with some antique motorcycle parts of mine. Jean Fogarty is the owner, she can be reached at (401) 421 0205. Definately worth checking out. They do all kinds of plating. She is doing some parkerizing and Nickel plating for my 1931 HD VL. I can't say enough about their work.

Just got a quote from New England Chrome for $475-$500 to do the rear bumper of my '70 LeMans. My bumper is straight and has no dents. Also called International and they said they would have to see it first to see if they could do it!!!

Sounds like a fair price. Hope the quality is good!

Jean told me the same thing for my stuff. Fortunately I'm only ten minutes away from her. Kind of a long trip from NH just to get an estimate. Not sure how this helps but I had about 13 misc. pieces form my HD that needed Nickel plating. Various parts form shift levers to shifter linkages. They cost me about $400.

All I can tell you is her quality is unbelievable.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give Jean a call.

Carbon County doesn't do bumpers. Anyone work with J&J in Pawtucket?

I Doc 02-20-2008 02:37 PM

I've heard of them. here in Attleboro, MA we have tons of plating companies. A few friends of mine own some of them. They always recommend J & J when I asked them. I stumbled across International form a motorcycle restorer friend of mine and I went with them. I think J & J has been around for a long time and has a good reputation. I talked to them in the past and they said they do bumpers and all sorts of large items. Worth looking at them.

I had a not so good experience with Nu-Chrome in falls river MA. I would avoid them unless you feel like waiting months for your parts. They also quoted one price and charged another without any explanation.

I talked to J&J and got a good feeling from the guy. They come up to a garage in Peabody every week so I can drop the bumper off to them to get evaluated. I don't have to ship or drive to RI.

18yr old thread so post Covid, EPA regulation changes, etc., you may find a slimmer list of choices available….

Old thread.. Yes, chrome shops are fading away.

For reference, New England Chrome used Sandy's Bumper Mart in Syracuse. I was going to drop off a bumper to New England Chrome. The guy said "get it here be 5:30 (AM), as the truck is leaving for Syracuse at 5:30". This was ~ 10-12 years ago. i then reverse engineered that and found they were going to Sandy's. NEC had a deal with Sandy's and upcharged by $300...

Was not too thrilled with my bumper rechroming in Syracuse at Sandys

I used LKQ to do the bumpers on my ‘64. Very happy with results. You drop it off at any location and they ship it to their facility. Looks like there are several locations in the New England area. My bumpers were bent and dinged. I believe their facility is called North Star in Minnesota. Oh, did I mention that their prices were reasonable? Good luck.
