With judge prices going out of this world I would like to know more about the 400 magnum Any good sites or info

Are any of the original 50 or so even known to still exist?

Not that i am aware of.I think if a documented one ever showed up,it would be pretty valuable.

I know that they are rare I would like to clone one from a lemans would be a fun ride I love glasgos drag car.

surely a few of them are still around, maybe without the stripe/decal package (been repainted) ,owners may have no idea, upper part of OHIO is where i'd be checking every 70 Lemans out closely, when and if you see one that is, not an everyday thing anymore. i'd imagine some will turn up eventually.

I have not seen one since 1982,and that was about a mile from where i now live.It was still nice,Atoll Blue,never seen it again.Also around the same time there was one in Kent that was junk,never ran across it in a junk yard later on either.Would love to find one!!

cool adds Who would be a good source for the decals? the side strip would be easy but the name one would be harder to find. Did They have a rubber mat or carpet???

Yea, the Magnum 400 is really cool, but as I understand it, they were all made from Tempests NOT LeMans'.

So if you're going to clone one, you should probably start with a Tempest not a LeMans (They had different standard interior trims. The '70 Tempest/ Tempest T-37 had vinyl bench with patterned cloth inserts, the LeMans had vinyl bench, and the LeMans Sport had buckets). The Tempest would be an easier starting point (less to change), if you can find one, 70 LeMans' are a dime a dozen compared to Tempests, at least in my area:confused:

I thought about cloning mine into one, but it seems like more of a regional thing, I'm not sure it would have the same impact in Kansas as Ohio. (that and my car was built only two weeks after the mid-year change to "Tempest T-37" so originality has a little more significance than coolness).

I don't think I've seen a dozen different 70 Le Mans live in the past 10 years. In fact i can remeber 4 exactly and one Tempest.

What magazine is that article from?

Were all of the Magnum 400s post-coupes?

I'm pretty sure they were all build from post coupe Tempest's especially to stay within the price point they were advertised at.

But I've also heard they would install any engine you specified, including a Ram Air V!

Not sure if they ever did though?

I wish I knew what magazine that was from, I found it on the boards somewhere, here's a larger pic.

It looks like it says "TA" in the bottom corner next to the page number, but thats not ringing any bells for me...maybe someone can figure it out.

Well, we have pictures of two originals, one from the ad and one from the article, both are 2-dr sedans (wing windows). Its tough to say that they were all sedans, but it does match what the article said, and it does make sense with the pricing. (even though my 2-dr-ht Tempest T-37 350/TH350 WITH carpet LOL only sold for $3033.09 new, not a lot more than the Magnum 400 price, but I could imagine tacking a R/A III onto that would kick it up quite a bit!)

Oh, I may have been exaggerating a little on the "dime a dozen" thing. I know of 3 LeMans Sports (one is a drag car, one is junk, and the other has goofy nose stripes), 1 LeMans two-door sedan (drag car), and one LeMans Sport convertible (very nice!), but I haven't seen any other '70 Tempests (let alone T-37s!).:noidea:

TA = Thunder Am magazine, now High Performance Pontiac Magazine. I recall that article was in one of the Thunder Am issues around 1982 or 1983.
