Machine shop recommendations for SE michigan

Hey all,

I am looking to rebuild a 400 I have for my 67 firebird project.
I haven't had an engine machined in 15-20 years.
Can any SE Michigan forum members point me to a shop that I can trust to have experience with Pontiacs?
The rebuild will be a mild street build - no trips tot he strip planned at this point.
I figured if I can't afford to replace it I shouldn't race it.

Thanks.

If you don't mind driving a few hours, I'm located about 20 miles north of Dayton, OH. Someone on here probably knows of an engine builder closer to you, but if not.......

I haven't used them (yet), but have heard good things about Auto Bohn Engines in Lowell,MI (east of Grand Rapids). You could also check with Scott Tieman Restorations in Portland,MI for a reconmendation. You can check their web sites for more info. Hope this helps. Darren

No idea how close Clawson, MI is to you, but it would be pretty neat to run an engine built by Milt Schornack: http://www.motor-city-muscle.com/pontiac.php

I had Crazy Bob Bohn @ Auto Bohn prep my block last year. Mains got line honed, block baked (cleaning), decked and cylinders honed with torque plate...Block already .040 over and honed in nicely. $800.00....No boring. Ouch!! Rotating assy from Kauffman dropped in nicely. Bob is very particular in what he does and knows pontiacs well and the work he did for me was perfect. Had some E-heads preped by More Power in Sparta Mi- north of GR and they did well in price and workmanship. Palbykin recommended them, so they had to be great and they were. My two cents.

MrBAMF,

Where did you end up at?
I'm in Fenton and will be looking for someone also in the future.

The shop is Fraser is Automotive Machine. Seems like every time I go into that shop there are a few Pontiac engine jobs in the works.
