update on my 65 2+2 convertible 421 HO
 

As you may remember I brought the car home last Oct. It had been sitting for near twenty years.

After replacing the fuel tank, rubber fuel lines, fuel filter, Carbs rebuilt, oil change, coolant change and having the engine wire harness rebuilt by M&H


The thing fired right up.........purrs like a kitten at ideal.............no smoke............!!

I should be out for the first test drive in a week or so after I check out the brakes.


I love this old full-size.

sounds like my g/p. i hope you have the luck with the 2+2 that i've had with it. it's been dead nuts dependable since i've been driving it.


let us know how that first drive goes, ours was a family affair and i've since hooked my wife on the car also.

It is mind blowing how long these cars can sit & then be fired up & go w/ limited issues. Is this just a Big Pontiac thing or do other guys get away with this kind of stuff too?

Ill guarantee the Mopar guys don't have that kinda luck......

Went for that drive last night
 

Well, I ran home last night and started the car up again. This time I left it running long enough to make sure the thermostat popped open, and it did. A quick check at the brake pedal showed it to be up and solid ( power brakes ). Power steering worked with now issues.

At this point and after choking the wheels just in case the brakes were not as good as I thought, I slipped it in gear.........Nothing happened.

A quick check of the dip stick on the TH 400 showed the ATF that was on the full marked had been suck up after starting up the car. I poured in 1 1/2 quarts of ATF and tried the shifter again.

This time she just quietly slip into gear. I shifted to reveres and it was there as well.


So with a smile you could not smack off my face I rolled out the driveway and down the block.
My family stared in disbelief as the old beater (as they call it) rolled past them as they looked out the window . I gave them a look back as to say "Now you will see the power of this fully functional Death Star young Skywalker " LOL

With no tail lights or blinkers I keep the drive short and headed back home.

Amazingly the car now starts with one flick of the key.....idles strong.......no smoke from the engine..........no so much as a lifter tick after sitting for nearly twenty years.


I guess I need to wash it now.......................being a driver and all.

Congratulations Brian. I remember how good it felt last year when I fired up my 2+2 for the first time and took the same cautious drive. Mine had no lights, no hood and no bumpers. But I only went down out private road. I also remember my wifes look of disbelief. Her comment was, "it sounds like a really cool car coming down the road and then you see it". mine sits still now while I do the body work (very slowly). I can't wait to get it out on the road again.

It's a good feeling,... isn't it?

I know it well, as my 4spd 'vert sat for many years. It runs excellent, thanks to ... a friend, and I should be getting the exhaust this week. Next tires and then after that I'll be in your shoes with a first test drive..

brian and gnx, you've discovered why my g/p's filthy all the time and it's a true rag. i enjoy driving it enough that i've not taken the time to start the resto on it. once i start it'll be blown all the way apart and reside in a pile. re washing it, i parked it outside tonight, it's supposed to rain like hell tonight and tomorrow, that'll get the dust off!


ron, glad you're enjoying the supertune. when it's truely roadworthy i expect a ride.
