fender emblems

Do I need to unbolt my front fenders to get the GTO emblem attached? Thanks Mitch

If you want to put nuts on them you do. Another way they sell a sleeve that fits in the hole then you just put the emblems on held on by friction

front fender emblems

Hi mitch
Wnen I did my resto we measured from the wrong mark on one side so one emblem was lower than the other. we were able to unbolt the inner fender and just get a hand in there to remove the nuts. Drilled the holes in the correct place, leaded in the old ones ,repainted the fender and installed the emblem. It is not the easiest to do but sure beats removing the fender.
Check it at at my website fredsgto.com.

Hey Mitch, been awhile since i did mine, i think i took off the two bolts on the bottom & pulled the fender out some, then my wife got her hand up there & tightened the emblems down. Its a real tight fit but we got it done, just be careful, if you let the fender go...........your gonna hear some complaining big time.

I just noticed these replies. Quick question though, and I assume the answer is yes, were these fenders already painted? I don't think that I would chip off or crack some paint this way, but I would feel more comfortable knowing others have done it this way. Thanks.

Say the post. I had the old 326 emblems and now have a 406 in the beast. I found this website and ordered the 4-0-6 emblems for bothsides. They are self stick. If you do it right you gewt them to line up nice with a piece of tape and cover the holes for the originals. Hopes this helps.

Mitch, my fenders were painted both times i put on the trim.......paint was 1 yr old when i replaced them with new emblems, the second time i did the emblem thing was when i had both fenders & hood painted becase of some stone chips......car sat over winter, paint was six months old.

I was a little nervous about doing it the second time, but it came out ok........i losened the bolt on the top of the fender, and took off the two on the bottom, i couldn"t get my arm up at all , but my wifes fit under there but it still is a PITA to get the speed nuts on there right because you cant see anything , be careful when tightening down the nuts also.

If i had to do this again, i would try using the inserts they sell and see how that goes.........the worse that can happen then is the emblem falls out, your only out $30 bucks..........start chipping paint by pulling on the fender......thats a little more costly.

good luck

Also if you do go the insert route, how about a pic, ive never seen one with that setup.

I changed both of mine with the fenders painted and on and no problems. Just do as stated above, remove the screw for the rocker trim, remove the rocker trim so you don't bend it, remove the two screws / bolts in the bottom of the fender, and remove or really loosen the back top bolt on the fender. Do all of this with the hood up so you don't kiss the edge of the hood with the fender when you're pulling out on the bottom, and if you're really worried about chipping the fender or door, put a layer or two of masking tape on the edges of the fender.

as stated above, tight to do but the fenders dont need to come off. I will add: make sure you enlarge the mounting holes carefully if it was recently painted, the paint will make them smaller and you will damage the paint if you dont enlarge them and just jam the emblem in there, dab a little touch up paint to the hole esp. if you expose metal during this process.
