Carburetor Factory or The Carburetor Shop?
 

Looking for a rebuild for a single barrel Rochester for my '64 Tempest. Got a price from The Carburetor Shop which seemed high ($55 + shipping) but I didn't review the bill of materials. They do seem to have a lot of information on their site. Didn't contact the Carburetor Factory yet but was wondering if anyone has had experience with these two...............also...............other suppliers welcomed.

For what it's worth, the owner of the Carburetor Shop goes by Carbking here on the PY boards. He's contributed a lot of his time and knowledge answering questions here.

If $55 for parts and labor for a one-barrel carb rebuild sounds high to you, then you might either want to get rid of your Tempest or learn to rebuild components yourself, cuz $55 is pretty damn reasonable.

$55 to rebuild a 1 bbl carb? It's more than damn reasonable - it's a bargain!!!

yep.........$55 would be a bargain for a rebuild............I meant to say rebuild kit...................I have both the Chassis Service Manual which covers it and just downloaded the '64 Rochester Service manual for B, BC and BV series...................

Scott - by all means shop around, but please compare the bill-of-materials for each rebuilding kit when you compare prices.

Such things as leather accelerator pumps, main jets, power valves, vacuum piston springs, and idle mixture control screws only are a part of some kits, not everyones kit.

Carbking's kits are second to none. I can vouch for that!

You won't find a better or MORE complete kit than the ones supplied by The Carburetor Shop. The tech service can't be beat either.

Cheap parts aren't always the answer when it comes to a vintage car.

I've used the NAPA kits and the Carbking kits..... hands down the Carbking kits are much better quality, not to mention the customer service from Carbking. If you have any questions about your NAPA kit when you get it, make certain you call the NAPA store where you got it for help.:oogle:

I just paid $175.00 to have one build by a local builder who is very good. It goes on a 70 Chevy truck with a 292 six. So, send the carb, and dont mess with buying a replacment that may not be done with the same care.

I bought the rebuild kit from Carbking. I never considered NAPA or others but wanted input on the service provided by those who specialize in this area. I can tell you that I had a couple of conversations with Jon (Carbking) and just his expertise regarding carburetor set-up and potential issues with six-cylinders (puddling) was worth way more than the cost of the kit. When I got the kit, one of the gaskets had questionable fit in one area and I sent a pic to Jon and he wanted to send me another as he thought maybe the wrong one was put in the kit. It wasn't a big deal and I told Jon I'll just relieve the area in question. What impressed me the most about Jon is that I contacted him with the fit question via e-mail and he requested that I call him to discuss. He took time to review what I sent him and immediately sought to correct it. This is exactly the kind of person I am looking to do business with and overall I feel that I got a bargain. I would not even consider going anywhere else for carburetor parts and highly recommend Carbking to all.

I finally got it all together this past weeknd as I got caught up in stripping most of the engine, cleaning, painting, etc., and the carb was the last to be done. It runs great, the rough idle is gone and power (what there is of it........lol) is very smooth.
