Keep the heat out
 

I know this is probably on here somewhere but I can't find it, I need some advice on the best stuff to keep the heat from the engine compartment out of the passenger compartment. It is hot in south Alabama (better known as LA) in the summer and it gets very hot inside the car. I have headers, jute under the carpet and carpet and it still gets so hot that the a/c will not cool it down to a real comfortable temp. Please give me some suggestions. I have looked at several and none that I check say anything about keeping heat out. They all seem to take care of sound. Thanks for any suggestions...BB

There has been tons of write up on sound/heat deadening. I have used Second Skin in my last 2 projects and have been extremely happy. The GTO will have it done during this winter.

When ordering whatever you decide to buy, measure the whole cabin floor depending on how far up the toe board you plan to start at, going back to the rear of the car. You might double up along the tunnel.

If you have alot of money to spend use dynamat and then dynaliner through out the floor pans and inside firewall . Probably $250.00 that way . If you don't have much money to do it then go to a hardware store and buy duct work insullation with adhesive backing(Frost King ) about $15.00 a roll plus duct work tape (the shiny stuff not duct tape).

Ceramic coating the headers will help.

Is your AC working to max capacity? Might need to be checked.

I thought I needed to do the same thing, and found out I had some heat coming into the car via the heater. I refurbished the box with new seals, gaskets, but when the heat is shut off, it still is allowing a small amount of heat to get into the car. I placed a towel over the discharge vents and what a difference. It was 92 yesterday and it wasn't real uncomfortable in the car. (no air, windows down) All this time I thought it was heat coming through the floor and firewall.
