Core Support Bushings
 

My core support bushings are shot on the Can Am, one side literally disentegrated when I took it apart. I know no one makes a replacement set for the Can Am, so what are my other choices?

Thoughts?

Per the Parts Place site (www.thepartsplaceinc.com):

They do not list the core support bushings separately, but I believe that they are included in the kit... I would inquire to make sure that they are.

Ames lists just core support bushings for '73-'77 A body and '75-'77 GP..however, they must be in development, since instead of a price, it says "inquire"...

I will look to see if I have any new or used core support bushings left over from my projects.

I called the parts place on Friday, their kit includes all the body bushings but no core support bushings.

I dug out what was left of my old bushings over the weekend, and one side is fully intact, so if I could find a suitable material, that was the correct thickness, I could make my own. Anyone have an idea where I could find a couple sheets of urethane?

Have you contacted Ames to see if and when they plan on releasing their bushings?

No, but that is a good idea. I will post back once I get a reply.

Well I just heard back from Ames, and they only carry the body mounts. So back to square one.

Did they mention when they are releasing them? If they are in the catalog, they are in planning.....

The sales person I talked to would not comment on future products, so who knows if they are planning on adding them.

Just dug up this old thread while I have been working on bushings in my 73 GTO. I was very confused when noticing there were no body bushings in my car in the "Number 3" position on either side of the front seats. In addition, the #4 and #5 locations (next two back) only had the rubber cushion on top of the frame, and no bolts.

What confused me even more is that those positions do in fact have the square cage nuts in the body! I thought for sure that someone in the past did not put it back together correctly, until I looked in the manual and confirmed it is correct. Strange.

My bushings are not all that bad (just old and a little soft), so not sure I wanted to spend the $250 on the kit mentioned here at the Parts Place. Anyone have experience with that Kit? Good quality?

On a side note, I had ordered a body kit for the 73 X body, and those mounts will work for the front 4 locations (which you can also purchase separately for $16), but the rest are not compatible.

I bought the kit from Parts Place and it worked great (good quality) with various bits and pieces left over that we didn't use on the 73 GTO build. Paul~

For what its worth, I measured the thickness of the core support bushing on the Can Am and compared that to the core support bushings for my 65 GTO. While the shape of the inner bushing is different, the thickness was the same. I went ahead and installed them and will be putting the front clip back on in a couple of weeks. We'll see if the fenders and hood come close to lining up.
