Quarter panels almost done!
 

After these are done, just need to put some trunk pan sections in, then its ready to come off the frame! These quarter panel patches are the ticket for minor quarter rust. Fit real well. For anyone that has not seen my pics before, this car is my first attempt at panel replacement.

Also got the firewall sandblasted and coated with epoxy primer.

Jeremy, Looks great! Working on it down by the beach or is that your indoor sandbox?! I HATE cleaning up that sandblasting mess but Harbor Freight hasn't come out with a blasting cabinet you can shove the car inside of yet so I'm in your boat!

Yep, all I need is a big kiddie pool in there, it will be so relaxing. :D

Can't wait till the sandblasting is done, luckily most of the rest will be on the floors.

Nice work!! Its amazing what you can do with mig welder nowadays! I love it when guys do their own work. Hey thats what the hobby is all about. You'll be able to take great pride in a job well done when your finished and you know its done right cause you did it yourself.

Finally made the patch for the rear of the LH quarter: (before & after)

Had to cut the rear section of the quarter patch out and bash in the bottom of the outer wheelhouse so it would suck in some more. This side is pretty much done, except for some pinholes to fill.

You can see on the pic on the right where i've been chipping away at the undercoating - doing that sure puts a smile on my face! ;)

Jeremy I used a map gas torch and a scraper and the stuff comes right off.

It doesn't need to get very hot either so you won't even come close to doing
any damage with the heat to the metal.

Looking good, I should of did my passenger quarter with the patches instead of the full skin.

Got the trunk dropoff in, and the trunk has been started.

Hey webfoot nice work , did you get any oil canning above your quarter patches i have a vert and i got a oil canning dent up above my patches they pop out but wont stay out any suggestions Anybody.

What is "oil canning"?

It's that tendancy for the metal to 'pop' in and out when you press on it. You press on it and it pops in...reach around to the other side and press it, it pops back out.
Basically, it's stretched metal. The only real way to cure it is to shrink it.
I got a little above the wheelwell on my '68 when I welded the lip in place. Still haven't dealt with it.

Hmm. Mine will pop in but return to their original place. Hope ya get it figured out.

Actually, that too is probably considered oil-canning. After all, that's what an oil can does...Pops in and returns when released.

I had some oil canning on a front pass. fender above a small patch. right where the GTO emblem goes. Used an "L" shaped angle out of stock 18 ga and tack welded it on the backside of the outer sheet metal, pushed it where I wanted it and tacked it to an inner brace. Can't tell it from the outside and nobodys going see it when assembled. If I tried to use heat to shrink it I would have screwed it up.

Funny you should mention that. Theres a piece of 'c' channel glued to the inside of the rear quarter on these cars, I assume, for that purpose. It's right below the c-pillar/rear quarter glass area and is visible from inside the trunk compartment.
If I extended mine about 6" to the rear, it would solve my oil canning problem.
I have a scrap piece from a donor car and I was thinking of doing that exact thing with it.
