All components sourced from Butler performance; machined, assembled, and dyno'ed at Wheeler Racing Engines/Wheeler Dyno Service. Cool video, the guys at MCR are doing a GTO street car for a customer. Be sure to check out the rest of their site...they do some ultra-fine work!!

Damn! 1,075ft lbs of torque at 3800 rpm! thats as high as they could read it, well over 1200hp on a safe race gas tune and 925hp on PG!

I was really impressed by this engine. It's a 505 (4.375x4.25), with standard port Edelbrock heads, Victor EFI intake, forged rotating assembly, hydraulic roller cam, IA2 block....it's just a really solid street engine. I couldn't believe how low it would idle....I got it to idle quite smoothly at 700 rpm (ah, the joys of EFI!). The EFI system is a FAST XFI unit, and as always, was super easy to tune.

I really wanted to max out the dyno from 3800 to 6000 rpm, but we didn't quite have enough fuel pump capacity to be attempting that! I know for sure that we could easily make 1400 hp with this engine on half and half race gas/pump gas.

The whole package was a neat deal. The hydraulic roller cam really made the engine super docile, and very, very quiet. This is just a basic street engine package in a strong block.

Bug - I guess I was referring to the long block itself.....other than the block, it's pretty much what a lot of guys have in a stout street engine.

But yeah, you're right.....I can remember when a 1000 hp engine was something to brag about in a race car. Now, I see 1000 hp in street cars all the time. Not that there's a real use for it (other than bragging rights), but.......

Looked to be a very productive day on the dyno with a real nice pump gas tune. What kind of airflow did you have through the intercoolers?


I'm always interested in the cams people put in their turbo engines.
Could you post the cam specs and installed CL please.

Chicken & Bird:

Cam is a Comp custom grind, 258 intake, 248 exhaust on a 115 LCA, installed on a 112. Hydraulic roller, .580 lift.

I could not believe how calm this engine was. I'm sure the 7.9:1 compression ratio had a lot to do with it.

Also: Airflow through the intercooler was effectively zero, other than ambient air motion in the dyno cell. Pump gas air temps were in the 80-90 degree range.

Awesome work! What's your opinion on a single pattern cam in a 460cid+ cube turbo appl. vs. like the one you posted. Do you know why it was installed @ 112?

I thought the same thing Travis. Figured it would be much better on the road with real airflow going through it.
