trunk floor extensions

I need to replace the trunk floor drop offs (extensions, lower side panels...whatever you want to call them) on my 78, been looking around and have found them from several sources, and noticed quite a price difference as well. I've seen them in the classic industries catalog for 54.95 each, but when you search that part number online it comes up as a camaro part???? Here on PY they're $109 each. I'm wandering if the ones classic sells are camaro parts and you just modify them???? I'm willing to do a little work for half the price if need be. I don't need the whole piece mainly just the bottom 3-4 inches, I plan on patching in what I need anyway. Anybody done this? Just wandering if anyone here has had experience with this. Thanks.

Cant imagine how the camaro would be different. I think I recall bitchn about 75$ a peice for mine, but they were shot and had to. Since you only need the last 3 to 4 inches, got any sheet metal laying around to make a pattern for a part that you'll never see? Of course this is assuming you have enough healthy metal to make a pattern.

It's not too horrible down there...just really want it to be nice, I've owned this car for 22 years and have no plans of ever getting rid of it so I want to do it right (within budget that is) I was a fabricator for the last 16 years so I'm not afraid of metal work just wandered what others had done.

The camaro part is not the same. The bottom is different. Not even close. I'm trying to fix my 78 TA drag car with the same problem, The repop 1/4 skin fits pretty well but the trunk extension is not working and there is not enough metal to make it look original.

Has anyone used the PY extension?

After doing some research last night it seems that Ames only has the Camaro part.
I can verify it does not fit correctly and will require adding metal to make it work.

Paddock lists different part numbers for the firebird and camaro part which seems promising. Is the PY part a correct fit?

Thanks..

i'd guess the py part is actually for the firebird. Ones I've found that don't say they're for camaros are about twice the price. I'm buying the camaro parts, i'm only using a small part anyway so why pay extra. I've looked at pictures of firebird and camaro parts....cant see any difference, but that doesn't mean there isn't any.

Well, I ordered a pair for a Camaro, I'll let everyone know how much work it is to install them on a Firebird, I'll take some pics and get them up when I get one side done, I thought I'd give it a try for the cost, $44.95 each.

The firebird extension I ordered from Year One was waiting for me when I got back from Pontiac Heaven. Its the right shape but not as well made as the Camaro piece. I haven't had time to check the fit yet.

I got my extensions....haven't had a real good chance to see how they're gonna fit, look pretty decently made. More to come later.
