'74 GTO Shaker base plate

I have an original base plate from a '74 GTO. This is the steel plate that is actually the top portion of the air cleaner. Some surface rust. Can email picture. Asking 125.00 + actual shipping. I am located in WV, 25271.

Can you post a picture of that baseplate? Not sure what it looks like. I might try making one up at some point for mine.

Ahhh crap. It WOULD have to be complicated like that. Ehh. Ill try someday anyway.

Did some of these shakers have Vac operated flaps in the back? The one I have has plastic covers.

1974SD455 04-26-2009 11:22 PM

'70-'72 T/A's used a dual solenoid(controlled by switch on throttle lever on carb.) The '74 GTO had a single solenoid(controlled by a vac/elec switch remote from carb.)
The flapper door on the inlet side of the shaker is metal covered with a thin closed cell foam padding on the side that faces out.

I was going to use this for my '74 SD to make it as Pontiac would have done, if not for the drive by noise standards. I ended up getting a complete shaker in much better shape and transfered the top of the TA's shaker to the bottom of the other one.
If I don't end up selling this I'll probably set up another spare for the T/A.

Does anyone know where i can buy a new shaker hood and the shaker assembly? Does anyone sell new body parts specifically for the 74 GTO/Ventura?

Me Notyou 05-08-2009 01:18 AM

I know one company sells the fiberglass hood for the Ventura/GTO but I think the shaker is part of the hood. Don't know if they have one that's seperate. Somebody here should be able to post the link, I don't know where it is right now. As far as the scoop goes, I don't think so. Pdude might and I know Nunzi used to ( friend has one on his TA ) but I don't think it's still available.

Well is there any significant difference in the T/A Shaker kit vs. the GTO shaker for 74? If there isnt any difference than i will go ahead and buy a T/A Shaker assembly...i have seen a few of them around.

Thanks for the info friends

I have a later 77 TA shaker for mine. I don't know if the GTO shaker is the same or different.

74GTODude2 05-08-2009 12:00 PM

I think i am going to go the T/A route...i am sure there isnt a difference. But i did find a place that makes fiberglass parts for the GTO/Ventura

Rocky Rotella wrote a very good article in HPP a few years ago covering all the shakers and their differences. A pic of my 80 TA was used in the article I took, I'll look through the mags for it and post what it says.

VFN makes what looks to be a "early shaker". Glasstek makes a HUGE early shaker. PontiacDude has a larger later shaker as well.

Either VFN or Glasstek can mold their shaker into their Ventura hoods, but its an extra cost. I used a VFN hood and glassed in an early shaker on my car.

PN 6488274 is the air cleaner base, same as 73-74 TA, If I read it right the shaker itself is the same 73-76, PN 491982.

GTO SCOOP

:) I have a 74 GTO scoop & air cleaner assy for sale on ebay right now, check it out !
This is a Rare one year only 1974 Pontiac GTO Shaker Hood Scoop and Lower Air Cleaner Assy that comes with the solenoid, flapper door, linkage and wiring, I purchased this scoop a few years ago because the fiberglass scoop itself was damaged around the outer lip :(( see photo's) and air cleaner top and hood to scoop seal were missing, I wanted to salvage the door, solenoid, linkage and wiring to install in my 1977 Pontiac Can Am (don't even know if it will fit) but never got around to it. I can't gaurantee it works because I never figured out how to check it out, so you are bidding on it as is.
If you have any questions please email me.
