Rear disc pads do they use a retaining clip
 

Hi everyone, Ive got a 79 TA that has the factory rear disc package. Ive developed a rattle, or clicking sound in the passenger side rear caliper. It goes away as soon as I touch the brake pedal, then starts back up again soon as I step off the brake. Question is: do the rear disc brake pads have the same kinda retaining clip that holds them inplace against the calipers piston like the fronts have? Thanks.

Absolutely, there is a retaining clip that loops around a groove in the piston and hooks to inner pad and also the outer pad can be cinched up to prevent rattle also

I'd say your rear pads are getting worn out and or rear caliper pistons need adjustment.

My experience with those rear disc systems is that they eat TWO sets of rear pads to every set of fronts.

I had to crank out the rear caliper pistons manually about every 3000 miles (just to keep the rear brakes functioning)

Using your parking brake regularly can help to keep the caliper pistons adjusted properly

Rear Calipers Screw In/Out
 

My 2 Cents:
Don't forget that the Rear Calipers Screw In/Out unlike the fronts that press In/Out. Would be a shame to destroy the rear calipers or pistons using an C-Clamp tool to compress the calipers. Lisle, NAPA etc sell a universal tool that fits the notches in the rear caliper pistons to adjust them using a simple 3/8" ratchet.
