1979 TA console removal
 

What is the method for removal of the console of a 1979 TA 10th? There appear tp be some fasteners under the ash tray and some brackets by the seat belts. Help!

Four allen heads around the shifter if auto(never pulled a stick console). Two I want to think 11/32 heads up at the dash. Pull the glove box out of the console and there will be 2-4 screws there.

The glove box doesn't feel like it pulls out, but maybe it's glued in. I'll pull harder, thanks for the help.

The console box is likely held in with two small screws. Clean the inside of it out and you'll see.

Then like Skip said there will be some screws underneath there, in addition to the four allen head screws around the shifter plate, and additional screws in the bracket up front (where the map pocket is under the dash/radio) that attaches it to the dash.

If I clean all the loose extra screws and parts out of the box I probably would have seen those screws. Would you believe that I engineer this stuff for a living! Thanks for the help.

The console glove box and spring do take some wiggling to get out even after the screws are out..

Yes, there are 2 screws inside the console arm rest/box. Once those are out, keep the lid open, because the spring will hit the edge of the console if closed (not to say that you couldn't still get it out).

2 after the box it out.

4 around the shifter.

2 up underneath the dash.

I also find that it helps for the car to be in low gear (set the E-brake)...it's alot easier to get the console out then.
