Looking for Coupe race car project

I was wondering if anyone has a good rolling early model body for sale (Pontiac of course) that can be turned into a bracket race car . . . Budget, depends on the car, but was looking for something for a few thousand dollars (does not need interior, just body and frame is okay). Thanks for considerations.

Interested in a 63 Grand Prix ??? Located in Philadelphia, PA.

Not really the bracket car I was thinking of . . . however tell me more.

drag car body?

I have a buddy in mid-West Virginia that has a pretty rough 2-dr post 61 "batwing" car body. The car has a history as a "amateur" drag car. I estimate he is about 400 miles from you (90% or more interstate travel). I beieve you can buy this rough body for basic scrap metal prices. If you are interested I will contact him.

Wow . . . as long as it isn't a rust bucket . . . I would be interested! Thanks.

The 63 Grand Prix is my weekend bracket racer "project" that has been sitting. The car was a Georgia car from new until 2001 ...then went up north for a year and now has been parked in my garage since 2002. It has around 59,000 miles on it. The frame and floors are really nice. The truck floor has a little fiberglass to cover up some pin holes. The body is very straight and pretty much rust free. I replaced the doors with better one as the old ones had some door dings. It is light blue with white doors ...so it does need paint.

I have already install the Jim Taylor built 455 motor and a Turbo 400 but I have not worked on the car in a year. Of course the motor and trans are not included in the sale.

The blue factory buckets seat interior is pretty nice. I have done some modifications. I removed all a/c parts and heater ducts to reduce the weight. I had plate welded on the firewall (nicely done) so now it is flat with no holes. It has no power options other then power brakes. I even have a manual steering box ready to install. The AM radio was gutted to reduce weight ....since it did not work anyway. The heater controls were left to retain the factory interior look. All the glass is good and the bumpers are straight.

I have to many projects and would perfer to put the motor in one of my 1961 Pontiacs... so I would consider selling the body.

You are close by ...so if you want to take a look at it send me a message with your phone number.

I also have a 1978 Grand prix SJ with factory metal sunroof and loaded with power options. It has a worked 1968 Pontiac 400 with Ram Air manifolds with a beefed-up turbo 350 trans and a Grand National rear with 3.73 gears. The car is gold with gold 8 inch snowflakes and drag radials in the rear. It is pretty much done the way it sits but could use better paint.

I drive it on occassion so it is turn key. I just have to install the new mini starter as the current stock one is tired.

I would sell the 78 GP fo $3500.00 ...or the rolling 63 Grand Prix for $2500.00

I love the look of that car . . . just wondering about the weight issue. I don't think I've ever seen an older GP race car. Cool thought. Do you have any pics of it, and about what are you looking to get out of it.

Nostalgic1 06-21-2009 10:34 PM

Steve ...or anyone interested in the 63 GP or the 78 GP ...email me at NostalgicGoodies@aol.com

Steve ...I tried send you my number thru a private message ...but it came up with this message:

The 63 only . . . I know what you mean about the private message thing. There is a box you have to check before you send it. I've had that happen too (until I figured it out). I'm gettting them all the time, so I doubt it is at my end.

I guess no one really has any ideas or vehicles within my price range sitting around. Certainly not much feedback on this one.

PONTIAC LARRY 06-25-2009 09:36 AM

My 63 Cat 2 dr ht listed below for $900 is too rough ?

lighthouseman 06-25-2009 12:33 PM

Larry, thanks anyway . . . but by the time I'd get it here, I'd have too much money in it (about a grand to get it here). I do appreciate the thought though ! Take care.

PONTIAC LARRY 06-25-2009 03:06 PM

Matt, had a Catalina hauled from my house south of Dallas to his place in west of Milwaukee ,WI for $500 very recently...

But I understand...just gotta ask..:)

lighthouseman 06-25-2009 03:45 PM

I used to have stuff hauled much cheaper too . . . checked with the people that do my stuff (rarely of course) and they said mleage is almost doubt from WI. to where I am. The cheapest I could find, is $960 (partly because it is not running). Just not worth it . . . by thanks again for the offer. Hopefully someone on this side of the line will give me some good ideas too. So far, not much!

PONTIAC LARRY 06-25-2009 05:09 PM

That's cool , good luck with the search :)

You didn't state whether you wanted an A body or a B body.

See eBay seller "Hendrixfan."

turbo69bird 07-04-2009 02:14 PM

I know of a 69 bird with 8 pt cage for around 7000 with drivetrain but its a 350/350 pontiac drivetrain.

I also have my 69 firebird 12 Pt cage, glass doors, lexan side windows, full glass nose,(looks steel) 12 bolt, mini tubs, wilwood brakes, strangeaxles, coilovers, etc etc but its alot more money than your looking to spend I am sure.

can be sold as a roller with trans or without. car ran 9's for years and is CURRENTLY certified for 8.50

lighthouseman 07-04-2009 06:42 PM

Actually don't really care. Since it will be a full time race car, only requirement is 2 doors.
