Gorgeous 72 Jet Black Firebird

It's lately almost a mission to find pictures of 70-73 birds I havent come across yet / havent got in my collection yet. found another one worth saving and sharing:

now this is one clean looking bird. haven't figured out if its all to the numbers and all correct, but frankly, a car that looks like this, doesn't have to....what a beauty!

click on the links above in the page to see the project....great work!

Jeff Lilly is based here in San Antonio. Never seen his facility but I've always wanted to. I'm sure he does awesome work. These pics certainly paint a picture.

That's a beauty...and black to boot. Just getting that fiberglass hood to match the fender lines must have been a nightmare - they are always warped in the center from the years of hood hinge spring torsion.

Stunning!

Wow... takes a lot of work and skill (and filler) to get panel fits that good. That's a beautifully done car.

Great photographer work too!

I didn't realize Jeff Lilly was doing that many GM cars. Last I knew he was considered a Mopar specialist.

I had a black 73 Bird I cloned into a Formula. Would love to have another. When painted right, those cars are tough to beat.

That car could even silence the "no spoilers on formulas" guys!

Excellent car!!!

I was just thinking how the 60's Ferrari-like rear body lines were interrupted by that spoiler :)

As said, the fitament is beyong good, wow....

Can't help but thing that was not a Formula originally as no emblems or exhaust tips. It is begging for baloney tips.

Engine wasn't my cup of tea, but no doubt what owner had in mind....

Silver grilles would accent the black better.

There, I b*tched about a near perfect car.

cliffhanger 07-13-2009 11:31 AM

haha I do agree on the engine, there. It would have been great spotting a nice correct blue IAII (or +) engine with an actual ram air air filter or the low chrome model.....

I could mention a nice set of rallye 2's with the chrome outer lip would look stunning too, but I just can't bring it up....its just too damn good car.

Seeing the rear bumper without the bumper jack cut outs makes me wish I filled mine in before having it rechromed. And I do wonder how many hours are on the front sheet metal as well.

webrunner 07-13-2009 01:35 PM

Very Sweet! This gets me really wanting to finish my bird.

CaptCrunch 07-13-2009 04:33 PM

that paint and body work is as close to perfect as I've ever seen...........wow

funkybird 07-13-2009 04:45 PM

Awesome. That looks like one big bucks paint job. Agree with 72formula that this shape doesnt need the spoilers.

Ordered for Jim McDonald, President of Pontiac, loaded with options and a book of documentation, and a 455HO. Beautiful car in black!

MikeNoun 07-15-2009 12:31 AM

Also that one-off black 72 T/A that we discussed previously....

Wareagle 07-16-2009 12:10 AM

Cliffhanger - very cool car --that would look mean in your rear view mirror coming up fast .

bird72 07-16-2009 12:11 PM

Cliffhanger, I get a kick out of your enthusiasm. You obviously have artist talent and vision. It'll be one huge kick to me to see your car done, I sense you are fighting doing one in the midst of life, like me.... keep on brother.....
