Quarter glass chrome moldings suck!!
 

I don't think there is one piece you can buy for these cars that doesn't fit like sh#t or has to be bent or "tweaked"!!
I spent 2+ hours last night trying to get just one side of these damn things on and the quarter window felts for the car also. Fought with the doors last Saturday! Gotta love that gold "Made in Taiwan " sticker on both of them!! :mad:
Is there any trick to installing these Quarter moldings on the glass that isn't obvious? Maybe NOT use the strip provided and use Urethane windshield caulk instead??? :noidea:

Just need to finish up these couple of things before I put the vinyl top on and it's really pissing me off!! :rant:

If the moldings fit fine when dry, I would use the windshield urethane sealer.

I just mounted a pair of these pieces of CRAP myself a few weeks ago. I have yet to put a single repop thing on a car I was happy with! Also note the death points on the ends of them. I was going to file them round like the originals and decided against it since it would just start rusting. The right side went on okay, I fought the left side for an hour. The radius on the curve was just wrong so it refused to go on and kept spitting itself off the glass after I had it on. I ended up bending it a little which of course put a small kink on the inside but that helped enough to let it stay on. As far as mounting without that rubber, I've put originals on no problem by squirting 3M weatherstripping adhesive/sealer into the channel, pushing it onto the glass, then after it's dry, take a razor blade and trim the overflow off where it squirts up over the glass.

I'm glad someone else has had as much luck/fun with this Taiwan sh#t as I have! I did the left side first so maybe the right won't be so bad. I have yet to try and slide the weatherstrip in place, I was going to wait until I get the glass in then cus and scream over that fun. The sad thing is it wouldn't be that hard to make this stuff precisely correct or even better fitting than it was originally with all the CAD measuring devises, technology, etc etc these days. I always love the little footnotes in the catalogs about how perfect a fit this or that piece is and how good the quality is. Gheeeez.

If these bastards pop up or off just one time, I'm going to glue them on and cut back the excess like gto4evr did.

You literally feel like you made ice cream out of a bowl of sh#t by the time you get some of this repo crap on the car correctly only after spending hours for something that should take minutes!!!

It got to the point on my 71 that if I had the choice of a damaged OEM peice or a repop I stayed with the OEM... Like you guys, I was not happy with a lot of the repop stuff I received

I remember installing these horse ***** pieces years ago. felts are way to big!! like a caveman, I grabbed my rubber mallet and pounded them on. now they have this sort of radious in them. kinda folded over as they were going on. oh well, for some strange reason it always feels good to swing a hammer or the like when having difficulties with anything................ :o

Oh boy, I guess I've got some real fun to look forward to. that was on my todo list for the weekend. maybe I'll do it next week:o

Should be the same process I do for the 70-2 Skylarks.....clean the glass with razor scraper. Place rubber U-channel on glass. Place a small amount of Silicone spray on the rubber U-channel from top to bottom. Start at the top corner and then use a rubber mallet and tap into place. I always take a file and dress those sharp bottom edges...then spray silicone spray or soapy water on the window chrome rubber seal and slide into the chrome channel.

That is exactly how I did mine.

I'd agree if the metal was actually radiused to the same curvature as the glass but it wasn't (on mine at least). On the left side piece, if you slid it onto the glass withOUT the rubber, it would bind on the glass and actually stay on there without holding it, that's how far off it was. With the rubber U channel it was just too much pressure and as you try to work the bottom on after starting at the top the rubber had no where to go. The metal wasn't curved enough to match the glass so it bound up at three points, the top and bottom on the inside edge and the middle on the outside edge.

As far as the CAD comment....SURE they use CAD in Taiwan....it's called the Crap Ass Design method where they figure out how cheap they can make something and still make it look like the original from a distance before anything as trivial as correct fitment comes into play!

I'll be a son of a b#tch if the mldg didn't start to pop back off when I installed the weathstrip after I put the window in on the left side last night! :mad: I haven't done the right side yet but at this point, I'm getting a tube of black urethane window glue and use that on the right and re-do the left.
Gstage1, That is exactly how I installed the molding.

gto4evr's assessment on the install and fit is spot on to what I saw in the pieces I got.
I talked with Paul at FAST Automotive and he confirmed that alot of people, including himself end up gluing them on with silicone and cut away the excess. I was just hoping to do it the right as originally done by the factory but guess that won't be the case this time! :mad: :mad:
Anything I've bought that has the RWE (I think that's the company's name) Company name on it might look like a quality piece but they fit like total sh#t!!!!!
The super sad thing is after going thru the box with all the window trim, drip rail moldings, vinyl trim, and unwrapping everything to see what all was there, I found a brand new set of the 1/4 weatherstrips so I just bought another set for nothing!!! :doh:
