What do most guys do to get rid of the logo? Just take a grinder and grind it off?

how does the paint hold up on them compared to iron ? any different prep ?

Mine are painted. The still look perfect. No discoloration after 2 years.

F no. The point? Do you store your car outside in saskatoon, saskatuwan outside in the rain and snow? Do people think that they are fooling someone? I've had mine on the car for 4 years now and 12,000 miles with slight discoloration.

I have mine painted, left the Edelbrock logo in tact. I don't have near the miles as some do, I am only looking at about 50-60 miles since my motor has been built about 2-3 years ago, but I do have a lot of idle and tuning time on them which still produce heat and mine still look good.
Not to mention the aluminum on my E-heads was starting to discolor from age, so decide to paint them my baby blue 65 engine color. People at the local cruises don't know what is going on with my motor. They scratch their head because they know it doesn't look right but they can't figure it out. What gets me is I have many people asking me why I put a BBC in my car????? I tell them it is all Pontiac and end up arguing with them. Why do people do that, sheesh...... Cast heads would have been turning brownish-white by now Mark |
painted mine too. no real prep work. still pretty good for the most part two years and 800 miles later.
would'nt do it again though. |
I just can't find the right Hi-Temp light blue in the color I want.

Painted mine when I wanted the motor to look sleepy.....milled the front of the heads so the edelbrock was gone and the took a 30 grit grinder disc and hit it with a hammer to give it the Cast look, Did the same with the intake. Also ground off the edelbrock on the exhaust. Painted the distributor cast and all the billet pulleys black.

My thoughts were, aluminum is porous, and it might last longer if it's sealed. And when it comes to touch-up, painted makes it easier. Mask and shoot and it's done.
I didn't prep mine at all, mainly because the stuff I had was dried up and didn't know it until I popped the lid! I had some of that high heat stainess steel exhaust stuff from eastwood. Used to use that on iron heads exhaust ports to prep before painting, made them last a long time before having to reshoot them. Figured I'd try it on the aluminum heads too, just didn't work out that way! . |

Actually, I want to change all the lines eventually.
What I would like are the lines needed from the fuel pump to the carb. (I am using a high flow mechanical pump, a performer intake and a 600 cfm edelbrock on a 1966 389 engine). I also would like to change the radiator hoses. Actually, I would love to change all the rubber hoses in the engine bay. |
