Upgrading rear axle shafts
 

Anyone here have experience with the Evolution Series rear axle shafts from Superrior Axle?
I'm looking to upgrade the 30+ year old axles in my 77 TA, and am considering going to these....not the chromoly axles though, just the rehular series part# EV10-2. Any info would be appreciated.

I bought this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SAG-PA6062/ for my '69 8.2. Its a bolt in , where as the one you are showing is a c clip. I had to have the bearings and studs pressed on at a shop.Otherwise same axle. Street driven only, no problems, noises or anything since installed this past January. Hope this helps.

I purchased a pair of those same axles mentioned above (SAG-PA6062) for my 69 lemans and had them installed this past March. I was impressed by their build quality and overall feel of strength. Im making 400ftlbs @3500 with 3.90 gears and a 2.73 1st gear. Definately love launching the car every so often and so far the axles have held up great. Make sure you order the studs from them too as it might be hard to find exact ones to fit seperately.

Hi and thank you for the replies. I spoke with a fellow at Superrior axle to see if a bolt in unit like the 6062 was available for my car. Apparently they are not available so I either need to go to a c clip eliminator or stay with my c clip style. If I understand correctly, changing to the c clip eliminator requires modifying the end of the axle tube, which is something I don't want to do. Car doesn't see much track time...only the occasional blast on a street legal night. Any other options or recommendations from anyone...moser, bear, yukon? What brand yo you guys put your faith in?

Here is what I recently did on my 74 t/a 8.5" 10 bolt. My stock axles were junk.outer bearings had cut into the bearing surface (before I bought the car). I bought new 12 bolt 30 sline axles for the same price as the 10 bolt 28 spline axles would have been,new outer bearings and a new 30 spline 8.5" posi w/400 lb springs and composite clutches. I also regeared the car at the same time but if your gears are good and the ratio you want it isn't neccesary. The axles were only about 200$ and did not have the weak looking factory taper either,seriously beefy compared to stock 28 splines although I have seen very few 8.5" rear ends actually break axle shafts,Smitty

I like your way of thinking. So the 12 bolt 30 spline axles are a proper fit into the 8.5 inch 30 spline posi unit? Would the axle length change due to the new posi unit or would they still be 30 1/8 long?

They might have been a 1/16 inch longer,12 bolt nova/firebird replacement axles,I bought mine from randys ring and pinion. They fit pretty good in the 10 bolt 30 spline eaton posi,I have had to trim the button the c--clip goes on before just ever so slightly,the nub seemed a little thicker than a ten bolt axle and couldn't get the clips in but it was just a few minutes to grind them slightly. They use the same wheel bearing shaft diameter too, Smitty
