Youch- Live wires I did not know about!..
 

I did not have my battery power cable unhooked,
I was only messing with the AC/Heater vacuum tubing,
nothing electrical.

Then some stray brown wire hit the metal behind the
dash and gave me a good surprise and spark.

It is coming off the orange wire that goes to the clock.
(which used to work- has an old quartz conversion).

Anyway, this is constant on power. No keys in the ignition.
Which is how the power goes to the clock.

The only brown I can see that should be coming from there on
a diagram was for a dash tach option. But I don't see
how that would be constant on.

Any ideas what this was for? I am not sure what another constant on coming
from there would be for.

I decided to take a look for some other live wires.
I found this one, also constant on, orange with black stripe and hooked end.

It comes from a branch of the harness that also has a white wire going to the dome light passenger side switch, and the brown giving the AC switch power.

I already have a constant on going to my glove box lamp (switch controlled), and an ignition key in only on trunk switch in the glove box. I also have constant on going to the 8 track- I guess so you could play tunes without the keys in, and it just turns off when you take out the tape. Any ideas what this orange constant on would be for? It does have that distinct tip.

I also found this. I think it may be the radio dial light. Is there a type of bulb that just connects to it?

I love driving the car, but its these little things to fix that the list gets longer faster than I can check things off.

For now I am at-
and this is just electrical

-get blower working
-get horn working
-replace dome light
-hook am radio back up
-get right turn dash indicator working (front and back outside flash, just not indicator)
-install reverse light
-install console light
-figure out if I should have had a courtesy light
-get sending unit accurate (reads full when full, and accurate down to half tank- but...
-does not indicate lower than half tank, will read that from half tank all the way to out of gas)
-mabye install hood and trunk lights

after that I my plans are:
figure out why no ported vacuum on ported vacuum port on front drivers side of carb
put AC components in place and see if that can be gotten working
make sure vacuum vent controls are working right (I drove to work in 40 degree with no blower this morning just because I hate not driving it!)

hopefully I can get in a groove and start checking things off faster than I find things to add!

Orange with a black stripe could be for the lighter or clock. Power door locks had orange with black stripe for power it might be what that terminal is for?

Is all of theis factory wiring or a replacement harness?

On my 67, the hook meant it went into a plastic casing, normally for a glove box light or console light, etc..
The brown wire has lots of possibilties, accessory power, A/C switch, cruise control, etc..

If you didn't start this work, maybe it's miswired by someone else?
I just tackled what I could figure out at a time, and the pile SLOWLY got smaller and smaller and finally the items left only had one place to go, and I"m almost done.
