I think that about half of the list is on the mark.
For the other half, whoever wrote this needs to go back to Pontiac 101 classes

Yes, I think we discussed that article back in April when they announced Pontiac going away. They really needed to have someone with Pontiac knowledge write that article, instead of some 20-something year old blogger that researches information off the internet, and doesn't really know that Pontiac once made their own engines.

Not that this would be MY list, but the most significant Pontiacs, in year order, have to be:

1957 Bonneville
1964 GTO
1965 GTO
1967 Firebird
1968 GTO
1969 Judge
1969 Grand Prix
1969 Trans Am
1977 Trans Am
1984 Fiero

Obviously, I could add another 20 models that were significant, and another 50 that are my favorites, but I think these are at the top.

As far as online top ten lists go, I think they did a pretty decent job. Having the 6000 on the list may be considered controversial, but when you think about it in context it was a pretty good car compared to the competition in 1988.

It seems that a good portion of the automotive press is severely lacking in automotive knowledge. Do a little research on a model you know fairly well and you may start to see some real gaps on the part of the author. You may also notice a lot of people reporting the same incorrect information. Seems that they just find info and copy what they find.

Stuart's right, The list was a decent one IMO.

I'd have never put a 78 Trans Am on the greatest Pontiac list. But that's personal opinion.

I also agree on the 6000 STE. It really was a great car for the period and the cars it was competing against.

And I'd rather have a T/A SD from the early 70's than a 78 on the list.

I like the inclusion of the G8 - controversial to some here, but a great car nonetheless. It shows that Pontiac was thinking about folks that like to drive cars right up to the end.

What that list points out is that EVERYBODY has an opinion.

A 73 SD was on there- for the 78 T/A -Good choice as the Pontiac 400 was only being Stockpiled for its last year in 79.

Pontiac 6000 LE. A lady coworker of mine one time came to work to tell me of her husband just buying a used Pontiac to use as a family grocery getter. He hadn't discussed it with her and she didn't see it until he brought it home. She only got a quick glimpse of it in the driveway before driving her Toyota to work. She was telling me about it and when I asked what model she said she thought it was a "Gool-lee". I said, Judy, that's a 6000 LE".

Thats a good one.......lol...

Those 6000s were work horses. We had them as company cars for a number of years and we drove em real hard.

Tough cars.

I had two of them, back when I drove my personal car for business about 40,000 - 50,000 miles per year.

Solid and reliable transportation - economical with the "Iron Duke".

Still would have liked a 6000 STE with the V6 and the handling package...

I replaced my last one with a '92 Bonneville SSEI. That was a GREAT car! Handling, performance, and luxury all in one package!!!

The STE was a really good car for its time. The V6 and hadling package really made it a contender when everything was going "euro"

I liked the pic of the TA they posted. IMO this is a great looking car and when I see it all I can think about is Smokey.

The significance of the '78 Trans Am was in the fact that the W72 400 kept INCREASING HP in an era when it was the norm to drop HP. 220 HP in 1978 was pretty impressive...although 4 cylinders make that easily today.
