GM Engineering looking for GTO owners

"The Engineering Brake group is seeking owners of 2004 - 2006 Pontiac GTO vehicles.

"I am interested in talking to you if you are the original owner and have not performed any brake fluid service procedures.

"If you have a vehicle that matches this description and would consider allowing us to inspect, please send me a note including model, year, and service history and I will contact you for further discussion.

Hi Keith, I just got a 2005 GTO from the original owner and it has only 10,000 miles on it. It has had no brake service done yet. I'm on the west coast if thats and issue.

Given that it's been almost 6 years since the car came out and nearly 3 years since they were even sold, the car isn't produced or sold any more, and Pontiac is gone I have to wonder why they are looking for owners now.

They are investigating various GM vehicles that were imported into North America, looking specifically at the brake fluid (since the standards are about to change).

Learnings from this investigation can be incorporated into future models regardless of nameplate.

Original owner 2004 in Texas. No brake fluid changes that I know of.

what kind of changes are coming?

Currently, the standard recommended brake fluid change interval (for imported vehicles with DOT 4 fluid) is every two years.

The brake group is investigating the possibility of extending or eliminating that change interval for North America.

what is the difference in dot3 and dot4 fluid and are they interchangeable and/or mixable?????

Seriously, do you think anyone changes brake fluid in two years----or 8 years?? It doesn't get changed with complete brake jobs, either, except for the amount needed to refill for bleeding the air out. I've NEVER changed brake fluid on any car, and I've put 265,000 on one Pontiac and over 200,000 on several others. I've not had a reason to regret not changing brake fluid.

Dick - it's a combination of export, DOT4 and ocean shipping (a car sitting on a boat/in a port for several weeks).

If those constraints don't apply then I'd say it's a moot point.
