68 Dash Kit on Ebay
 

So my Dash was cut, like many others', sometime back in the 80s I'd guess as there is now a Tape Deck in the OEM radios' place.

There are two places I have located dashes. One guy in Texas named Darrel Roach who restores and sells complete 68 dash originals for $1100. Then I just stumbled across this dash kit on Ebay for ~$400 but it comes without the wood vinyl applied.

I'm curious what the difference really is other than one does not have the wood vinyl attached? Can't you buy the vinyl with adhesive backing and just apply yourself? Is a vinyl sticker really worth $700???! Anybody had experience with this? Unfortunately my old dash is a throw away now with the cutting and I have the OEM radio so I want to get it back to original.

the one for 1100 are original pieces that where restored. the one for 400 are new reproductions that i think just came out. i would like to know if anyone has purchased the repros yet and how do they fit and look. i have a real good core i was going to send out when i was ready but now with the dash being reproduced will it just be cheaper to buy the new set.??

honestly if it fits the same and looks the same...i can't see the point in paying 1100 "just to say its the original" dash. If thats the case I would think nobody would ever know which piece you used unless they were a Pontiac CSI or something :P New show???

Those are new repros, I think the Parts Place did them. I have not heard of anyone using them yet. But, if I were in your situation, and I will be soon, I would use them.

Looks like a good deal. I had an origianl re-chromed at Auto Instruments in Virginia....I think I ended up having $650.00 in the whole deal including a $60.00 woodgrain kit. I'm assuming they used an original unit as a pattern for the mold. Time will tell once people start buying them. You can be the guinea pig and let us all know!

I just bought a dash on e-bay that needs to be restored. I hate to admit this, but it has the bar and I was planning on cutting it. It needs to be rechromed and a new wood face put on it. If you're interested, PM me and we can work out a trade.

I think my biggest concern (aside from flush fitment) is that I suck at putting decals on anything. I have the worst hands in the world when it comes to that kind of thing.

Who put the rear GTO decals on the rear Q panales on your GTO? You have a very nice looking car. I see that you have the white ones and why?

Cuz68, thats the way the car came when I bought it so I don't know who put them on. I like the way it looks too. Thank you.

My car is turquoise with a black vinyl top and also had the white letters. If you look in the resto guide, it shows what paint codes could be had with what color letters.
Several of the paint codes could be had with either black or white letters.

Thanks Greg, I just got my resto guide so I'll have to check it out....my car has only had 3 owners, one of which had the car for over 30 years. The PHS documentation is all in order with everything that came with the car and all numbers match. The car even came with its original protecto plate and dealership delivery paperwork hand signed by Peter Baberino of Baberino Brothers Pontiac in Wallingford Connecticut. Delivery date was July 25th 1968. It has been repainted at some point but it was delivered from factory with black trim, black top (i think it said Cordova on the PHS paperwork not vinyl but I could be wrong) and Aleutian blue. I've never sat it next to another GTO with Aleutian Blue to see if it truly matches up 100% in color but from what I can tell it is correct. This is my first GTO.

That is an absolutely beautiful car. In fact, occasionally, someone will post a pic of their car that looks so good that I save the photo...Your's is one of them.
I feel that your car probably came with the white letters on the quarter. I know with my color, you could have black or white...Your's is probably the same but I think the white looks best on that code.

Im in the same boat. Ive got my dash apart and was looking for someone to re-chrome it and found 3 places in Texas Mr G's, Darryl Roach (new dash restoration) and Ram air performance. Mr G wont guarantee Ill get my old core back. Darryl quoted 550.00 (includes paint and wood grain) and ram air hasn't gotten back to me with a quote yet.
The repop is 400 plus shipping plus wood and no guarantee it will fit and the parts place ebay listing says all sales are final.

Nice information. I'll be replacing my dash (don't care for the black carpet look, myself). Repop sounds good to me for the price. Waiting for reports on which place is a better bet.

Wow, I really hope that this is a good part. Mine is cut and I've got broken studs. I'm ready to put in a new dash harness and factory radio. I'm waiting to do so as I'm saving up for a restored dash with the bar. Those things cost a mint! Somebody let us know how it goes.
