I have been seeing it on ebay for awhile now. The price has been dropping over time (no surprise).

Anyone know of this car personally and its true condition?

Good looking car. There's something funky going on with the driver's door interior panel, and someone has stuck a hardware store toggle switch in the dash (just to the left of the steering wheel) but otherwise it looks pretty clean. I used to have a '71 Catalina, I like that body style.

Ordered just the way I would want one- beautiful car!

Great example of what a flagship model should be.

I never realized how danty the door pulls on those were.

Also noticed a blemish on the lower part of the passenger door trim pad. But I sure wouldn't fuss over it if it was my car.

I'd drive that one in a heartbeat. My first CAR was a 72 Catalina. A GV 'Vert would fit right in here. I looked at a 75 a few yrs ago but it was a 400 car and was really rough in the floors. Combine that with the BJ asking price I passed on it.

I can't say I agree with the seller's thesis that puts collector car values on par with gold and silver.
It may take a while to get to a more 'realistic' price


After reading closer, I find out that it is not originaly starlight black.
At the risk of nit picking, I also noticed the questionable use of hose clamps on the A/C line to the condensor. Hood does not close flush with the header panel on the right side.(coulda been like that from the factory but really noticable on a black car)

wheels are painted wrong, wrong trim rings and centercaps

Nice looking '71 but isn't that a 2 bbl air cleaner.It says it's a 325 Hp motor.

That isn't going to hurt the car's value a bit, seeing how it has been changed from red to black. I think it looks great with black wheels.

Valve covers are the wrong color also. Door pull straps should be vinyl covered.
It isn't going to score high in a concours show, but it would be welcome in my garage.

Wouldn't fit in my garage!

Classic ride, but what ate the trunk lid vents for? :confused:

Well, Pontiac was marketing the top of the Grandville to mobster types... and well, you know... when you have a few bodies in the trunk in the hot Vegas sun it can get a little ripe. Those louvres provided a little ventilation for freshness.:cool:

The trunk lid vents were part of the flow-through ventilation system. All GM big cars had them in 1971.

Looking at that thing makes me think of how B!TCHIN' a 71 Convertible GP woulda been.

I've seen couple Grand Prixs that were converted to convertibles, and they were very cool. They used the whole convertible roof assembly and windshield frame from a same year GM A-body convertible.

That car is absolutely beautiful. Generally, outside of roadsters, the only cars I ever liked in convertible are big ocean liners just like that. I love that one.
