'67 Convertable 400
Hey Guys.. Does anyone here have numbers on how many 67 convertables had the 400 engine?? A friend is in money trouble and wants to sell it o me. He has had the car for 25 years, since we were kids.. 2nd owner, so a real 400.. Just wondering how many were built, or if anyone has an idea?? I found something like 18,000 in 67 were ordered with 400, but cannot find a breakdown on convertables... Thanks for the help..

Regardless of production numbers, it's a very desireable car, ever better if it's a 4 speed

Sounds like a good opportunity knowing the car's history as well. In 67 there were 15,528 convertibles and 67,032 coupes from info I see on the internet. There were 18,635 400 cars all together.

He swears it is a RA car of some sort.. We will see. I do know the hood is open, and has the correct style air cleaner. will be getting the vin number tomorrow and get a PHS ASAP./. I have always been a 70/71 guy... this one is just one I will be hard pressed to pass up.. too nice a car..

For '67, I think there is a published number of 400 convertibles in the neighborhood of 3,600. First gen 400 4-speed cars (esp convertibles) are hard to find because so many were trashed. There were only 65 RA cars builts (40 sticks, 25 autos if I remember right). I am not sure how many were converts but I am sure it is single digits. All RA cars had either 3.90 or 4.33 gears. Even if it is not a RA car, it is still a very hard car to find and a great one to buy if the price is fair.

i've heard only 2 concerning RA conv'ts in '67... from a restoration or buyers guide i think. seems like an awfully small number though so hopefully someone else on here knows for sure.

Note that the Ram Air bits have been repopped in steel for quite awhile now, though...., too. A solid original 400/4-speed convertible would be very desireable on its own. Fewer of those around than '70 T/As, I suspect. |
Here's a factory 400 / 4-speed convertible that's solid/complete enough to be worthy restoration candidate.
Posi with Performance Axle option, too. Seller say 4.11, but I'd guess they're 3.90s. Should provide a data point for you... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT |
At the price its at (and still hasnt met reserve) I wouldnt use it
for a basis of anything. True it may be solid but soo many mods made would make it a money pit to return to stock. But it could be a nice driver. |
So, anyone know how rare H.O. Convertibles are. I've heard around only 200, but cannot be confirmed.
