1968 and 1969 encounter this week
 

Ironically I encountered the 1968 GTO that my former family doctor owned, which he bought new. He even delivered me back in `late `63. Anyway, the car has been sitting outdoors for about 5 yrs and there is considerable body resto needs. I viewed all the original paper work and he saved everything. The original 360 horse engine has been rebuilt and is sitting in the Drs garage. The doc is now 87 yrs old and just gave up on the resto since his wife is in poor health. I have phone messaged a friend about the car and have no idea if he is interested.
Later in the week I had a good friend pick up a `69 midnight green, black vinyl top and gold interior. I wonder how rare of a combination that is?

You are correct, the Doc DID ORDER the HO 360 horse. He saved every peive of paper work before and after the purchase. Most of you, including me are not fond of the chrome front bumper he ordered. The car is black on black. If I get time pictures might be possible after this week. the car is not being advertized for sale, and I dont think the guy which the Doc gave the car to has given any thought until i inquired. I have a party that might be interested, so until he informs he, I will not give up any location or contact info. I have ONE GTO and that is enough for me, so I have no interest. I found a highly optioned 1967 GTO convertible sitting in the back of a cattle pasture here in Alexander county several yrs ago, and do REGRET not keeping that thing, especially since the owner only wanted 1000. for the car!

I suffer from '68 GTO blues:gag:, now the good doc could cure me.:D

Black on Black '68 HO with chrome bumper....sounds like the beginning of a real mean car.

Unsure about the A/C, but IS an auto. That 360 horse engine really caught my eye. Anyone know if that is the `68 Ram Air engine?

Anyone know if the color midnight green, black vinyl top and gold interior is a rare combo for a 1969? I just got back in from the shop where my friend took his.

There were 3 360 HP engines in 68. First is the HO which had an 068 cam with HO exhaust manifolds. The Ram Air I had a hotter cam still and HO manfolds along with the open hood scoops. About March the Ram Air II came out with the first round port Pontiac heads. It had even a hotter cam with round port manifolds and open hood scoops. Standard rears for the Ram Air cars were .390 or .433 no AC so your docs car was probably a HO car.
I used to race an HO automatic car back in the day with my 350 HP 3 speed car and stay even with him till I hit 3rd and he hit drive. He'd put about 2 car lenghts on me by the finish line.

Black on black Chrome nose car? All it's missing is the 4 speed.

Hey Greg, that was in 2005. I remember it well because I had a heart attack the next day. Was a nice chrome bumper goat.

Im taking a lot of vacation time during June & July, so bare with me. The car just sort of dropped in the new owners lap, and he is no Pontiac man, so selling is very possible.

Not sure why it matters how "rare" the color combo on the 69 is... it doesn't add one dime of value. Actually that tan/gold/mustard interior they used in 69 probably hurts almost every car it's in because it is not attractive to most folks. I know where an Expresso Brown Judge sits that has that interior. No one has bought it, two guys have stated if it had parchment or black gits they'd have pulled the trigger. Not trying to offend anyone, just stating facts as i see them. Walt Hollifeld's brown 69 has that interior and looks great to me! The Midnight Green exterior teamed with a black vinyl top is not rare, have seen many over the years. Sorry I couldn't answer your question.

Thanks, and I was not thinking in terms of how it effected value. No offense taken on the gold interior, because my opinion is if we all liked the same thing it would be a dull world. I owned a `69 Firebird 400, Antique gold, gold interior, black vinyl top, and absolutely loved the combination, and I really like that combo with the `69 GTO.

My friend is interested in the `one owner `68 GTO with the 360 hp engine, but is very slow to take action, so I am going to give him more time. He has not seen the car yet. If he decides not to buy I will let everyone know contact info

I agree with you on that. I have really come to love the monochrome schemes, as I have heard them called....Gold on gold, blue on blue etc.
My '68 in fact is turquoise on turquoise with a black vinyl top.
