aftermarket wiring harness
 

After upgrading the alt in the 67 Lemans, I realized how junk my wiring is lol. Planning on ordering a new one. I've looked around and as far as the "custom" part of the wiring is concerned out of the box (ie differnt alt, guages, electic fan etc) I thinking American Auto Wire is my best bet. What kit from them have you guy purchased and how was hte installation? I called them on friday, but the lady I spoke with wasn't to get with the technical side of it, and took my info for one of the tech to get with me through an email, but I haven't heard back. She said the harness for the 64-67 chevelle would work with some small changes on the dash harness. Just trying to get an idea for them or info from other companies.

if you search this forum,lots of info on diff. mfrs.M and H is plug and play(American Autowire may be,too)you can get a harness from EZwire or keepitcleanwiring(among others)for under $200.A schematic from ClassicCar wiring for about $20 and you can modify it to suit your needs.Substantially more work than M&H(plan on the better part of a weekend)but you can customize as needed,and still make it "plug and play"by using some Packard 56 terminals and your existing plastic plug housingsIf you are completely re-wiring the car,you will save about $1000 over M&H,and,as an added bonus,you will be well familiar with your cars electrical system.Good luck.

I've used AAW a couple of times and it worked well. They can do some customizing if you talk to the tech.

Just a quick input "C", based on my personal experience.

I've used M&H (http://www.wiringharness.com/) twice (that's two different cars) for underhood harnesses. I have a hard time calling them "aftermarket", because they have the same size and color-coded wiring, and the identical connectors, so they LOOK original!!

They are definitely pricier ($$), but IMHO they are well worth it. To be able to layout and install a plug 'n' play which looks exactly like the original was great.

They can also customize ... in my case added a tach, upgraded distributor to HEI, and newer model alternator. They modified and changed the connectors to what I needed. No cutting, soldering, splicing, etc. Just lay it in, remove the old and viola it was perfect. Call and talk to them ... they are great and will work with you.
