Transistorized Voltage regulator
 

Hello Gentlemen I have 65 Bonneville Convertible with a transistorized Voltage regulator, the regulator is not working properly it's throwing 18+ volts and I can't adjust it down.. Does anyone here know where I can find another one.....Thank You Larry

A few years ago I tried the autoparts stores with no luck...went to a local shop that rebuilds alt./starters, etc. They had them on the shelf for about $20. I just put it in my orig. Delco cover. My car did not come with the trans. regulator, and any replacements that I tried would "blink" my lights. Been about 5 years now...no problems. I can get you the brand and part # from my "stuff" if you like. Hope this helps.

Are you looking for an aftermarket "solid state" voltage regulator (like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT), or are you saying your car came with the factory Transitorized Ignition?

18v? not the fault of the reg, Id check the alt

also a dead short in the wire from alt to batt will throw high voltage at least until the voltage regulator or the alternater burns out

It actually is most likely the fault of the reg (if there is no wiring prob). The reg controls the alt field, which changes the strength of the magnetic field, which controls the output voltage.

No not the ignition(although they did come with them) the voltage regulator, .......Mine is exactly like this( attached pic) I imagine the after market will work.........I would like to find the Delco part number ,for future reference Thank You for all your responses Larry

I know I have a X tra round one,might have the one you need also.Im away on biz untill fri.Will check when I get back.They do show up on ebay.No longer avail from delco.Tom

The regulators are simple; if the reg is the issue, the output transistor is probably bad and can be replaced.

Whats the part number on back side ledge?

If its 1116378 you can find them on ebay.

I saw one on there that had a application year of 63 -65 iirc, but dont see it listed anymore.
