Mystery hole question?
Before I weld shut these mystery holes, I though I would ask if they were there for any reason. My car was partially disassembled when I bought it so I don't know if something should be here. The car is a 68 Lemans.

Not factory, weld 'em up!
|
Get rid of em!

As stated above, weld them up. Hard to say what has been done to these cars over the years. Likely that someone shot screws into the floor pans to secure exhaust hangers or something like that.

My 69 lemans has a large hole in that general area, maybe further outboard. Anyways it has what looks to be a rubber freeze plug in it ? I noticed it while dis assembly for restoration, but don't have any pics. Anyone recall seeing something similar? It almost looks like it was an access hole.

looks like muffler shop hanger holes...they where too lazy or didnt know how to do it right..i know my rust free 66 GS floor pans now has holes like that in the same spot...

Thanks everyone for the reply. Poor muffler shop work from the past sounds likely. The exhaust system I removed was installed correctly with factory style hangers, but the holes would be in the correct place to hang mufflers. Again thanks everyone for the reply since it would have really sucked welding the holes shut and then finding they were needed for something.
BTW two rubber plugs were installed. The holes for the rubber plugs are not visible in the photo. |
