I don't understand some people, honestly. I have been driving the Trans Am to work for the past few days since the GP is limping around with a coolant leak. I am peering out my window at my office just 15 minutes ago and witnessed some a-hole in a peice of crap 4 door, bang his gd diver's side door on mine. C'mon....it is a 4 door and if I can get my huge door open on thie 30 year old car without hitting yours, I'm sure you can too. Unfortunately, I did not get down there in time to rant at him; he is not an employee but someone who was here visiting. Have some respect for other peoples sh*t.

Man I am peeved. 30 year old car and he treats it like the same peice of sh*t he drives.

Yep!, Bought a brand new altima last year someone opened their door at walmart and dented it right in the rear fender lip crease! Not even two weeks later! Some People just don't give a shi*

Yup. most people don't care about their own cars, let alone your old car. It's sad

Sad but true, most people view their transportation as a disposable consumer item.
All you can do is enjoy your ride as much as possible and feel happy when others do treat your property with some respect. For me, its a known risk I accept and try not to worry about it.

The exact reason I park waaaay in the back of parking lots whenever possible. I don't mind the walk.

A friend of mine took his very nice 76 Bird (his 'baby') to Church....to avoid dings he parked on the opposite end on the parking lot , all by himself , walked across....while church was in session...a Vietnamese guy and his daughter came to that lot to 'practice' driving......you guessed it...she hit his car....
not always good to park in a 'safe spot'....lol

Never park next to a car with a child's car seat, or one with the door edges chipped up.

I know exactly how you feel. Had a similar thing happen to my Grand Prix about 3 years ago. Just got it going, and had just painted it and first day I ever drove it. Company I worked for at the time had a van we used to ride to the job in but I still had a 50 mile drive to the meeting place. Parked in the far end of the Food Lion parking lot where me and another employee always parked, came back that evening to find a nice new dent in the passenger side quarter panel. I was livid but nothing I could do about it. Then at another jobsight a bunch of Mexicans parked beside me and deliberately slammed a door into my front fender and then laughed about it. This was before I bought my pistol. Lucky for them. People have no respect for other peoples property as my Grand Prix is evidence of, it's full of dents from car doors.

Had a brown with gold graphics 78 TA WS6 W72 4 Speed back in 84. It still looked new. Parked it in the back of every lot. So I did that at Safeway. Very back. Go in, buy something, go back out. I could see at the back of the lot an old beater farm truck with a trailer behind it. Empty parking spaces all around for miles. It is parked next to the TA. As I walk up I see the rig is two feet from my right door. The trailer was full of squeeling hogs.

It's posts like this that make me really cringe at driving my car. If it was MI I might not have a problem because at least there the parking lots are pretty big. Out here everything is suited for compact cars it seems.
Almost makes me want to armor the doors with some 1/8" steel.

Some people see their cars as simple a to b transportation which is fine but I wish they would respect the cars and the feeling of others who have a passion for cars. The sad fact is since they don't a passion for cars they don't understand those who do and what it takes to keep an old car running and looking good.

My car looks like something from mad max for a REASON. People tend not to @%ck with somebody who looks like hes already intentionally slammed into five people on the way there! My Ventura however, ooooo.......... man I'm not anticipating parking lot idiots when I start driving it again!

And many old Pontiacs like my 69 GTO, do not come with body side moldings, a must for a daily driver.

Just last fall I opened my truck door at a Bass Pro shop with a bag in my hand. I let go of the door and just then a gust of wind caught the door and it hit the car next to me. Put a 1/4" long blue paint mark about 1" long. Left the person my number telling them what I did. Ended up costing me $232 for a small scratch. Dont think I wasnt thinking about just leaving it. But right is right and wrong is wrong.

Sometimes sh*t happens to all of us.

On the other hand I yelled at a old lady for hitting my rusted old 69 with her door. Even though its in bad shape doesnt give you the right to make it worse. She teared up.....

You're heartless!

This is why, other than at a car show, I never leave the Can Am anywhere unattended.

thats why a scratch is called a scratch
its minute and should be considered just that
if a car is parked in a public parking lot,,its then considered a daily driver
daily drivers get dinged and scratched

Had a deadbeat wing his door into my Dodge Omni 024 years ago while in the parking lot when I was in my car. Said something to him and the guy just didn't care. So I followed him rather close through the mall parking lot and while behind him at a stoplight, pulled up touching his rear bumper. When the light turned green, I floored it and started pushing him down the road. The guy and the girl he was with started freaking out lookin all around wondering what the heck. The Omni had a rubber front end so it didn't do anything but scare them, and I got my frustration out. Even with my daily drivers, I park at an angle in the space and try to park facing into the wind if possible so that the wind has a tendancy to blow the door shut rather than catch someone elses door and fling it into mine.
