69 trans am contraversy
wow going through some of the past post's on the t/a kinda blows me away.stripes on the spoiler, no stripes, fender emblems or decals, or both, hood decals yes or no, what color red or blue, front spoiler dealer added or factory my head is spinnin. i believe that if your not gonna pass it off or sell it as a real mccoy hey it's your car do what you like to it.ive also read there were no trans am;s in 69 it was only a package added to the firebird, thats why the fender decals went under the firebird emblems. everyone seems to have a different take on this car. pity the man who starts finger pointing on my car when i finish it. it will be the way i like it and thats all that matters really, mine to drive and enjoy. besides do you think if i had 1.4 mil i would spend it on one of these, i think not.

Its your car do what you want, the fact is no one knows for certain. There may be guys more well versed than others but no one knows the deal for real. Personally I dislike el caminos, if I had 1.4 mil I may buy one and crush it just for giggles......after i beat the hell out of it of course.

You can do what you want with your car.
That's the way it should be. :) The problem comes when someone says that must be the way it came from the factory, because yours is that way. Let people know it's done your way and not how it was originally. :) |
That's one of the reasons I modified my 69 Firebird the way I did. I modeled it after the original Firebird 455 H.O. engineering test car, so there's no right or wrong.
As for what's right or wrong on a 69 Trans Am, if you don't want to be scrutinized by every person at a cruise night, and you don't wish to have people judging your car (whether you want them to or not), and you don't want to invite people to tell you something is "wrong" with your car, then don't try to build your 69 Trans Am (or clone) to concours level quality. However....at the same time, you can't throw together a clone Trans Am, incorrect colors, wrong stickers, no Ram Air, etc., and get the same respect that a guy would receive that spent years restoring a real 69 Trans Am, to show quality standards and correctness. As for the red decals, Firebird emblems, etc, read the link below to see how these misconceptions came to be. And it's your car. If you want to put Camaro emblems on it, hey, whatever floats your boat. http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/happy0024.gif |
actually the only thing different that i did was to paint the hood tach the same tyrol blue as the stripes and added the 400 emblem to the trunk because i think it looks good i dont plan to be judged and would never misrepresent the car as a true t/a i just love the looks of the car and wanted to have one, i drive both my cars as much as i can, actually my wife found the firebird so i just remind her when it comes time to spend more money on it that shes gonna love it trust me lol!
