convertible top won't go up

I pulled the wires on my motor/compressor and applied 12v directly to it. no movement. just some clicking. Didn't do it for long for fear of burning something out.
Am I correct in thinking that this is a compressor and the cylinders that move the roof are pneumatic?
sounds like my compressor/motor is seized. can they be repaired?

It's basically a hydraulic system including the lift cylinders. Disconnect the cylinders where the rod end mounts to the top frame and try your mtor/pump again. If the cylinders move up and down, you may have a binding issue with your top frame.

I actually did that and lifted the top.
i didn't try the motor again though. I will do that though.

looks like this pump is seized.
are there any instructions on opening it? its trying to move. I'm sure it just needs to be cleaned inside.

iirc there is a small o'ring between the resevoir and the motor. It fails and allows fluid in the windings shorting out the motor. It is easy to remove, 1 connection and 3 grommets. Take the resevoir off and check the o'ring.
They sell remanufactured pumps.
Oh and you can use tranny fluid to fill it back up.

awesome. I'll give it a shot.

I opened the motor and it all looks good. there was a bit of dirt and flakes of rust that might have been causing my problems. Everything seemed to move freely.

I'll clean it and reassemble.
