Aluminum brake drums
 

Does anyone know where to get, or if they are available, aluminum drums for a Ford 9" rear with 11" drums? Thanks.

Only ones I'm aware of are for the GM cars with 9.5" rear drums.

Never heard of any aluminum drums for ford products at all.

The one on the bottom may be what hes looking for. Nice piece I doubt it saves weight much but it should disapate heat pretty good.

Those Deuce parts look like money. I've been quoted $3000/pair for custom alloy/iron 11" finned drums. I use them on the racecar.

Weren't there 11" alloy drums on the early ambulances and hearses? Doesn't help the Ford part of the problem, though....

There's actually only a very small weight savings over iron. Maybe a couple of pounds. Keep in mind only the outer casting/fins is/are alloy.

Cheapest way to go is buy a set of used 12" Buick drums with the backing plates - if they'll go inside your wheels - and convert them to Ford. It's done all the time on the early V8s and on hotrods. Go over to the HAMB site and search Finned Drums or something. If you want 9" you can get them off the back of a truck or a mid-size GM.

Yeah,there are also GM front aluminum drums,some GTO's and Buicks had them as an option,my friends oddball '70 stage 1 GS came with a set of them from the factory.

But this is the first time I've seen any specifically for the the Ford stuff.

Thanks for the replies. If there is nothing readily available I'll just use the iron ones.I may take an old drum and experiment with drilling to lighten. I used aluminum drums on my 10 bolt and they were 5-6 lbs. lighter, and this was on a 9" drum.
