Engine going to the Dyno Tuesday any Guesses on what kind of pwr it makes
Started in August with the rebuild and it is finally broke in and on the dyno stand for a few pulls. Just looking for some guesses on HP and TQ. The engine specs are as follows:
73 400 block stroked to 461 ARP Studs for main caps Forged h beam rods and forged srp pistons cast crank 4.25 stroke and balanced Comp ratio is 9.3 to 1 heads are 4x 7h and have 2.11 and 1.77 valves X-over filled and flow 241 on int and 228 exh Cam is tomahawk TC-02-HF [email protected] 236/244 [email protected] 510/505 LC 112 Johnson lifters comp cams 1.52 roller rockers, upgraded rocker studs & polylocks custom length pusrods intake is a stock 73 Exhaust on dyno will be headers w/ 1 5/8 tubes timing is currently set at 32 degrees and plugs look perfect. Will use a 650 holley carb to start and have others to try if needed Engine builder said with the detail and percision that he put into the assembly engine would have no problem surviving at 6000 rpm. I told him it would most likley never see over 5500 but its good to know. what do you think it will put out? |

I'll say it "could" pull in the upper 400's HP range. I wish the heads flowed a little more and the carb will be too small for max HP. However, the smaller carb will make better torque numbers. With the 650 carb and 241 cfm heads I'll guess...

the 650 carb is just the carb we used to break it in so we figured we would start with it. He has several other carbs up to about 1100 we can try so fuel should not be an issue.

Around 440hp/500 ft/lbs.I think you will find it will want more timing like in the 36 to 38 range.

Depends on the dyno- I'd guess low 400s as I would bet track mph in the car would show. Generous dyno 450-470. Neither guess with the 650 on it, especially fitted to a stock intake! 5500-5700 peak HP.
I'd think about a single pattern cam or trying more ratio rockers on the intake if you can with that head flow ratio. E/I 94%! At least a little more lift on the intake. |

engine dyno, so it will be at the flywheel. Thanks for the estimates I will post the actual dyno sheets. My goal was over 400 hp and close to 500 ft lbs torque. should be interesting. I also plan on video taping it to post.

415-430hp by 5100 and 480-490tq before the pull even starts, goodluck with that 650! 850 minimum! better bring two of everything to the dyno!

I think you will meet your goals, regardless, of the numbers.
Is that a 73 EGR intake??? IF it is, I'll be real curious how this goes. I hear the EGR intakes are junk, never seen any dyno #'s to tell me this, for a fact. Every dyno is different, and you can adjust the dyno somewhat, to make the numbers different... 400 HP and 500 ft/lb honest numbers would be awesome. I'm looking forward, also to seeing how one on Ace's cams does... Looks like a real good combo, that govenor carb might work better that we all think..... |
It should make 440-450hp, and at least 500ft lbs torque across most of the useable rpm range.
A few years ago KRE accidentally ported a set of the 455 4X heads and put them on a 455 using the Crower 60919 cam. They didn't realize until after the fact that they had one of their helpers port the 4X heads with the HUGE chambers. They went ahead and dyno'd it anyhow, and it made close to 440hp and 500ft lbs torque. I just happened to be up there dynoing my own 455 right after that happened. The numbers were pretty impressive considering the dismally low compression ratio.....Cliff |
