WOW, sweet find!!

PMDJIM 12-31-2010 09:07 AM

I saw that one on the internet. Thought it was an odd combo. But looks good.

The Boss 12-31-2010 10:35 AM

Nice car.

What's the explanation for the bumper change with so few miles?

bigborehunter 12-31-2010 01:23 PM

The only likely one I can think of is he disliked the 79 nose. Lots of owners do. This swap is done frequently. It takes someone really dedicated to swap the rear over because the rear tail lamp panel is completely different that year. Ironically most people I know love the tail lamps. I know bulb manufacturers do, six lamps minimum!

Yes the previos owner didn't like the 79 nose so put the 78 on it but it comes with the original. The color is the reason I purchased it. My old man in high school had 4 trans ams and his favorite one was the black with the blue bird. And I only found one other one and it was 4speed and he doesn't want a 4 speed. This one has way more options then my dads like air,pw,cruise stuff like that. Now i can't wait till summer!

Neat. A guy on another board (I'll post up a link if I can find it) did a swap of the rear bumper over to a 77-78. Made a modification to it and incorporated the tag holder from the 79-81 bumper and it rounds out the rear. It actually looked good.

Here it is.

Just curious but wouldn't be just easier to buy a 77 or 78? Haha but since the car was originally a 79 I'm putting the original nose back on bc I personally like the 79 better.

Hitman 12-31-2010 04:29 PM

I like them all 77-81. I always thought the 79-81's look beefier though. I dont know what it is. Yours is real clean, will look even better once you get the right nose put back on. I'm not one for those types of conversions. Do it all the way or dont do it at all.

That is a great color combo! Luv the blk/red or blk/blue combos, you just do not see them very often. Gets boring seeing blk/blk or blk/tan all the time. Slick T/A!

Ya it's a very clean car it use be in a museum by minneapolis but I can't remember the name off hand. There's couple piecesin the interior that are faded that need to be redyed but nothing major. The car was appraised before and checked out very good.

Thanks a appreciates that. Just makes the car very unique bc of it being black on blue. I had nocturne blue car with that light blue interior I didn't like it but with black I do.

The 79 T/A and Formula tail panel was the best looking IMO. And with 3 lights each side it's a great candidate for sequentials. Check here.... http://www.webelectricproducts.com/products.htm

You can't beat their prices. Especially when they're guarranteed for life. If a unit dies on you just send it back and they'll replace it for free. :D

Edit:
If you install their product you can send them a photo of you car and they will put it in the Customer's Cars section. My 66 GTO is in there.

:) I'm with you...I like 79's better too, so that's what I have. I liked the 79 nose change from the start and so did new car buyers at the time, since more TA's and Firebirds were sold in 79 than any other year in history.

I know what you mean about blk/red or blk/blue combos. I own (2) 78 T/A's, one blk/red and one blk/blue. The blk/blue is definately a rare combination...
