need carpet install tips
anyone have any tips on carpet installation on my 69 vert?
how far up the firewall does it extend? toe mat placement? how far rear mat extends under front or cut flush? how far rear goes under rear seat if at all? have the restoration guide from zazarine but no pics or info. any pics or videos? thanks |
Yea, I got a reco.
1. Do the rear seat carpet 1st. nail it down with the front HUMP Belt anchors, & Bucket seat rear-fasteners, and Retractable anchors. Rear carpet goes under the rear seat enough so the seat bench gets ALL the carpet's back edge, and the Seat's floor hooks need cut-clear. CUT all rear carpet side-edges for fitment, particularly under the DOOR sill aluminum. Rear Carpet Reference: the pair of foot-well zones & HUMP-to-Tunnel match. 2A. Position the Front carpet to lay properly (seems to be a continuous effort): Keep a eye on the HUMP forming onto the TUNNEL while getting the front edging to reach under the Plastic Column cover & Firewall pad, while ALSO keeping the toe mat in it's proper location. Helpful to keep curve carpet material "up" behind Front-lower kick-panel contacts. Front carpet References: Toe pad position & straightness. HUMP-to-TUNNEL match. Then the Front carpet rear beaded edge should be ~3 1/2 " from the Outer Seat retractor covers. ================================================== =============== I cut edges with a Stanley box-cutter blade. |
The only thing I can add is it helped me to lay the carpet out flat in the sun for at least a day. It seems to lay better when this is done.
