SOLD for 70k! Post car, left the factory with a 4bbl! Very, Very nice car, but this is convertible money! The reserve was lifted when it hit 51k, which I thought was good money, then a couple of guys got into a bidding war for it. Other early GTO's did pretty well too, including a 65 Capri gold with added tri power and Hurst wheels for 45.5, a 67 base automatic car for 36k ,a 65 automatic convertible for 47.5, the 66 Shornack Royal
Replica for 55k, and a 64 tripower 4 speed supposedly super correct for 59k (but the window sticker in the photo looks a little suspect). Those were just the early cars from today. Lesser quality cars from earlier in the week brought less money.

Nice car, and nice color combo. Looks like the fenderliner is creeping out from under the ww molding. I had a similar problem with my '66 in year 5 after the restoration, and had to loosen the molding and make the adjustment.
The key to a good auction is having more than one person who wants what you are selling, as opposed to a single person who is just looking to make some $$ by flipping the car.

Nice to see the "Post" cars get the respect they deserve!

The black 66 Mecum car looks identical to one that was at Charlotte Auto Fair a couple of years ago. It was parked on the front stretch. If it's the same, it's every bit as nice to see in person.

Don't know who wrote that article for the Mecum 66 GTO but he just doesn't get it.... all GTOs from back then were perfect. :D This one is just a bit more perfect. :)

That is good to see. I have to find my password to get back into the Mecum site, I am curious to see if any GP converts sold this time around. Maybe we are starting to see signs of life in the hobby.

A '67 Post Car sold for $75,000 @ BJ in 2009.
It went into the Blackhawk Collection.It was sold by a GTOAA member.There was a small picture of it in the April 2009 issue of The Legend.

I think you are right. Without the tips they point down into the corners. Ive also seen with the tips on pointed straight back right under the rear bumper just like my signature pic.

I hate it when they cant get it right.

Great money. I love it. This car is very nice but so far from concours I can't believe it went this high.
Personally, I don't like the after market Grant steering wheel or the down turned trumpets .
Love the tripower, fender liners, color sheme and power brakes, etc.

I wouldn't have thought that the color combination, as beautiful as it is, would bring this much of a premium.

Is that a Grant wheel? It's hard to tell from the pic but from the depth of the dish and the rivets on the back of the spokes I would guess it's the factory wood wheel.

Jerry, I would venture to say that being a Jim Mott restoration, that had a big inluence on the potential buyers.Jim has equalled Scott T. IMHO, as a restorer, one of his cars, a 65 Black/Parchment/White GTO 3x2,4 speed Conertible, owned by my friend and fellow club member John Wright, was offered 150K for his car at the GTOAA Nats in Wichita this past summer by a big time collector.The car is st8unning. I recently sold John a few rare NOS parts for it. Larry B.

Hey Richard, You're right and I am wrong. I looked at it on my crappy little lap top. On a bigger screen I agree its the "wood" sport wheel.

I can understand the offer of $150k on a 'documented' 3x2, 4 speed 65 Convertible by a top notch restorer. 70k for a 66 4bbl Sports Coupe I can't understand, even if Jesus Christ restored it.
