Defroster Ducting

Question about the defroster ducting... The upper portion attaches to some bendable tabs under the dash that hold it fairly secure, that is, at the outlet to the windshield.
At the lower portion, it just sits on top of the blower motor ducting over the transmission tunnel. On my car, it just sits there under it's own weight, Seems like the potential source for a lot of rattling and just doesn't seem right.
Question is, is there some type of foam gasket or something that should fit it tightly to the air outlet down there?
Just doesn't look right...

the lower end, where the duct meets the heater core box, should have a tab that faces the floor with a hole in it. its maybe .75" or so square.

said tab gets a screw through it attaching it to the heater core box.

no gasket or sealer have i ever seen between the two. the only mounting for the duct are the tabs on top of the dash and the above mentioned tab-with-screw to the heater box.

Thanks, I'll look for it. Possibly, it's broken off as I didn't notice it there. I knew there had to be something to hold that thing steady.

LOL

it might very well be....

i think of all the ones i've seen, defrost ducts, maybe 30% had them broken off.

Yeah, but now that I know how it should be secured, it's an easy fix. I'll just fabricate a tab of some sort and screw it to both parts.
