If your steering box is currently bolted onto the subframe mount holes, then you might have a problem where your body mount bolts have the subframe too far forward in relation to the body. Try jacking the body up slightly and loosening the 6 bolts until you can shove the entire subframe back to line up the column output shaft with the rag joint.

Also, keep in mind that you can also get some adjustment out of your steering column. The brackets that hold it under the dash have elongated slots so you can have a little leeway on the mounting. You'd also have to loosen the firewall plate that clamps onto your column if you were going to adjust it here.

There are 2 alignment holes on the firewall mounts on the subframe. Insert a 3/8" extension and it will line up the body to the frame. Made life so much easier when I found out that alignment trick.

The Chevy frame mounts are different than the Pontiac. I just removed the chevy mounts from my 69 firebird and replaced them with pontiac mounts.
