Steering Wheels?

I don't see any repop standard steering wheels for a '65. are the restoration kits any good? or is there a place that does a quality restoration? my horn ring is mint but my wheel looks crumby.

There is someone that re-cast's original standard steering wheels. A few years ago, they wanted $650 to $ 800 for a 65 GTO whel.
What color do you need?

The repair kits are not bad, the more time spent on the job the better it will come out.
I had to rush my job so I dont think it looks as good as it could of been.
I have not been able to polish the wheel yet to see how close I can get it look factory

Check with Koch's Steering Wheel Restoration in California. They quoted me $400 to recast my '65 Tempest Wheel (same as the LeMans/GTO wheel with a hornring) in the original color.

This is their website: www.kochssteeringwheels.com

That is a much better price than the guy in PA. wanted.
If you can get it cast in the color, it is much better than repair and painting.
Sooner or later, it will hair line crack at one or more of the repair places.
I have a very nice black wheel I am thinking about selling.

There is a 65 standard (Lemans Wheel) as it is called ,on eBay now. Do a search, and it is at $375.00 as I recall. Not perfect, but looks to be a nice local car show one. Check it out. Larry B.

I could live with a crack or two after all it's over 45 years old, I'd prefer that to a so so restoration. I had a wheel for my AMX restored years ago and after the first winter at 20 below zero all the cracks showed up again , they were smaller but the cracked paint looked worse than it did before.

I guess I'll watch ebay or end up getting mine recast.
