Insurance Companies and magic #7
 

We had all our vehicles and house insured with State Farm for 7 years. Our local agent retired so we shopped and found out we were getting hosed for the same coverages. So we were with Allstate for seven years apparently they were slowly sticking it to us because the local agent retired so we got a quote from another company. Huge price difference for the same coverages. Never a claim or tickets. Always a high credit score. Is this the trend with Insurance companies? Is this the price for customer loyalty? Is 7 years the magic#?

I have USAA. Never a problem. I have other companies call and say they can give me a lower rate until they ask who i have my coverage with. I say USAA and it's ummm aaaa errr are you happy with them? NEVER do give a quote.

i use allstate, not bad i guess, i have my house, truck, suv and motorcycle thrue them, the motorcycle has full coverage, i dont ever get that safe driver discount in the 3-4 years i had them, all i get is a ontime payement for the year discount which is less than 10 bucks or so for paying ontime

I have been with State Farm for years and they have always paid on the house or var when needed.

I deal with adjusters every week on roofs and Farmers has seem to be the most conservitive in paying. Maybe it was just a fluke.

Every 3 years I shop the insurance.....then give the company I have been with a chance to get more competitive if need be...I do not have the race car or the Judge with the same company as the DD's

i had allstate on my car.
i was sitting at a red light.
i was rear ended by a DRUNK senior citizen, WITH HER GRANDKIDS IN THE CAR.
COP SAW EVERYTHING< SHE GOT CUFFED and broughtr down town. my car was damaged beyond repair.
SHE ALSO HAD ALLSTATE.

I NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT IN MY LIFE TILL THEN.

ALLSTATE REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME.

they said things like " THE LAW OF AVERAGES SAYS YOU WERE DUE FOR AN ACCIDENT AND WE CAN ONLY COVER YOU FOR 40 %.
WHAT?!!!!!

then they said: "WE'RE NOT IN BUISNESS TO PAY YOU MONEY".

I FOUGHT THEM AND WON MY MEASLY 2000 BUCKS.

DONT USE ALLSTATE.

WHEN YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT, THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO HEAR FROM YOUR "INSURANCE" COMPANY IS: " WE CAN ONLY DO THIS...." or "WE'RE NOT IN BUISNESS TO REIMBURSE YOU FOR DAMAGES".

There is no reward for customer loyalty with a lot of these guys. They are counting on you to be complacent about shopping around. You’re a honey hole. It shouldn’t be that way but it is often the case. Find an independent agent that handles more than one carrier and come to an understanding that you expect them to keep your rates competitive.

I just switched about 6 months ago from Allstate to Progressive. Allstate was hosing me bad. Progressive was quite a bit cheaper upfront and if you do everything online its even less. I put those snapshot devices on our daily drivers and they gave me another $77 off my 6 month premium. So far I am very happy with Progressive. I checked on my home insurance and everybody was about the same. I will check on my insurance every year for the best deal. You really dont need to have an insurance agent. You only need a claims agent if you have a claim.

PS: When I had my Harley I found Geico was the cheapest on motorcycles. Jim

Same experience here. I was there so it was 10% my fault. Even tried to tell me the bumper was rusty. I told them they had replaced it 6 months before & would sue if that was true. No problem then. I did NOT have Allstate.

I would report the comment to the state agency that oversees insurance companies.

Seems 3 to 5 years is the term before you should start shopping around.I was with Allstate for over 20 years,same agent,all my vehicles and home,never thought about leaving until I did an online request.I went with a local a State Farm agent,cut my premium in half.

Always had Allstate Car & Home insurance. Good rates & Claim handling. But Home rate rose much.
Switched to Geico for Auto. Still have Allastate for Home. Hey, I go that wrong, didn't I.

I got the Allstate Home Ins. bill here and supposed to call to modify their modifications, to get a 50% rate reduction. I really ought to cal another Insurance company huh.

USAA and Dairyland for the bike. Never screwed and do not have to shop.

USAA is the king. no doubt about it. we were rear ended in a late model volvo and had a check for the entire value of the car in days. no increase. you do have to have a family member that was an officer in the military to get it though.

We have USAA and have heard the same thing.Also,a few years back,a micro-burst took 1/3 of our roof off on a Thursday.By 1100 hrs Friday,the adjuster was on site and we had a check by 1400 that day.

We've had State Farm for years. All of our vehicles and the house are insured with them.
I haven't been able to find comparible rates and service with ANYONE else!!

been with statefarm for 20 years and rates have gone down , I pay now for what I used to pay for a 2500 sqft home in 1990 on a 100 footer but thats cosy of living , my pickup insurance is $720 a year for 100/300/100

My wife hit a small deer on her way to work one morning. she got to work at 0800,called USAA, by 1200 the adjuster was there (at her work) looked at the car and handed her a check by 1300. It cost us $500 less than the check to get the car fixed and they paid for the rental while her car was being fixed.
