1961 Hood insulation
new REM hood insulation for 61. looks like there are 2 sides to it... one side is pretty much a thin black liner, and the other side is sort of marbled 5/8" thick insulation.
which side faces down toward the motor, and which side to the hood? |
I have a bunch of that sort of stuff written down, but unfortunately I don't have the definitive answer on this particular thing. However, I'm pretty sure it's installed with the insulation side down.

thx stuart. and btw.... always great seeing your 61. was inspiring to see it today! and the M535i new paint.... Mmmmm Mmmmm....
I took a look at pics of Jim's car, and it looks like he's got the thin black liner faced toward the motor. doesn't mean it's right.... but i'm thinking that might be better protected from chunks falling off after it gets 'seasoned' :> .... http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...33_15_full.jpg |

The soft side or thick side as you called it should go towards the motor |

Mine has the black side down.

well, the cutout for the light should provide the answer...
it's not symmetrical. just looked at my new pad - the cutout is on the psgr like JC61 picture when marbled thick side is down, and thin black liner is up against hood. is that light factory installed there on that side only? |

thanks for the help!
final trim work is like hanging ornaments on a Christmas tree. another question: do the hood and trunk Pontiac emblems have a gasket between the emblem and paint? also - what color is painted inside? my chrome is good, paint is faded, looks like blue. |
emblems
No gaskets were on mine and I'm the second since 64. The paint is a blue color.
