2011 Widetrackers Dustoff photos

Well, if it's a drizzly spring day in Michigan it must be time for....

the Widetrackers Chapter of the POCI spring Dustoff car show!

True to form, the day started off kind of punky but we dodged the threat of thunderstorms and actually saw the sun for a while. Car count seemed down a bit, probably because of the weather, but there was still a very good turnout with some really interesting cars.

My camera crapped out before we even started (...this is the replacement camera for the one that crapped out last year at this very same event! I am interested in recommendations, btw). Fortunately, I had my cell phone with me and was able to recover (for the most part), except as noted.

Beautiful black '63 Catalina, HO car, tri tone interior, award the "Best of Show" for this year (I believe this car was formerly owned by Allan Gartzman). Unfortunately, the exterior photo is stuck on my phone so if you'd like to see it you'll have to drive over to my house and I will show it to you. Eric White will be taking more pictures of this car at a later date.

For your entertainment, actual comments heard during the show about the weather:

My wife (who is humor impaired): "I think you should change the name to 'the Wipeoff'..."

Me: "Perhaps we should pursue Rain-X and see if they want to be our title sponsor..."

Club President Rich Dabrowski: "...we have sunscreen for sale here at the registration tent...but it's very expensive - because it's never been used"

PYer MJM421: "geez, we've moved it from May to June to dodge the rain; where do we move it next?"

My reply: "Phoenix".

(lol)

I like the Phoenix idea!

Looks like a cool show with some gorgeous cars... what's with all the GTOs, though? :)

Try Baton Rouge. It don't rain down here either!

Yeah but she was spot on. LOL

Keith, if you do get ahold of Rain-X, get them to make their spray wax again. That is/or was the best wax I've used in a long time... and I'm running out of it. I can't find it anywhere to get more. :(

Nice show too. You guys are lucky to get rain, hope you enjoyed it too. 10 minutes of rain here for the last 4 days doesn't do us much good. My lawn is toast.

Hey Keith,

Thanks for sharing the pix. That was always a good show. The Widetrackers held it for years at the Pontiac Motors Administration Building. Thought you might like to see a few pix from an earlier Spring Dustoff in 1995. The Woodward GTO Tigers were there in force. We gathered most of the members cars that were there into the back parking lot for a photo shoot.

Photo one shows all the cars. That is Bill Sherman's original 64 Royal Bobcat from the famous Car and Driver magazine article at the one end. Milt Schornack drove it to the Dustoff.

Photo two shows a rear view of some of the cars. In the background, you can see some of the other cars in the show and the Pontiac Motors Administration Building.

Photo three shows a closer view of some of the cars. My Convertible is on the far right side.

I wonder how many of these cars were at this years show?

Jim

I finally caught up again with Mike Morrisey; here are some pictures of his beautiful '63 HO Catalina:

Good looking cars. I was eyeballing that '66 OHC Sprint.

Time to take that show indoors..

LOL! - I'm a huge proponent of indoor drag racing, as well...

;)

Andre 08-31-2011 06:46 PM

Indoor drag racing is definitely the way to go. They always have it at Barrett Jackson. My friend won a Mustang racing a couple years ago at the PB auction

Many nice cars, but when I saw that '63, I said "Daaaamn!" outloud just sitting here at the computer. That 4 speed shift pattern cast into the console top, slays me everytime I seen one.
