1967 GTO Convertible Rocker Panels
 

I need some help here. My outer rockers on my 1967 GTO Convertible under the both doors are great but my inner panels are shot.
1) Do I need to remove and replace the outer rockers to do the inners?
2) Is there a site that explains how to remove & replace the rocker panels or can I get a hand here?

The truth is that I haven't done rockers since about 1969 - 71 when I worked in a body shop till about 1976.

I have an oxy / acetylene setup and a Mig welder. Air compressor and power cut off wheels and a good set of air tools too..

I get the feeling you're talking about the "inside" section of the rocker panel; the section that faces the frame of the car. I haven't done this repair, but I've seen some folks do it, but only when they are doing a floor pan replacement. It seems to me it would be a bear of a job working around the floor braces which are welded to the inner rocker. Even so, I don't think you'd have to disturb the outer rocker to replace the inner part.
But mostly I wanted to let you know that convertible rocker panel assemblies are more complicated than hardtop/sedans. I recently did repair work to my 67 convertible up by the thick sheet metal sandwich by the cowl/pillar/rocker area at the front of the body tub. I found that the A body convertible rocker panel assembly has a 10 or 12 gauge "C" shape steel stiffener inside the rocker going front to back. The hardtops/sedans do not have this piece.
If you do mess with the rockers, be aware that this C channel is welded to the top and bottom of the rocker with a million spot welds. Luckily, the inner rocker panel is not part of that C channel.

Hi Again,'

I find it very strange that I have posted a question on replacement or repair of the inner rocker panels on my 1967 GTO convertible with only Dave giving me an answer but not a resolve.
Dave is a great guy who has done an extensive job on his 67 GTO vert. But is there no one here who has done this job?
I have 2 new panels on the way.
I get a feeling that it is a job, if I don't take the floors out, I can't do. I am not taking my floors out.
What do I do here, please someone with experience answer.
