insurance
I am looking for a better rated insurnace for my collector cars. My current one has one of the lowest ratings. Does anyone have any very high recomendations for a collector insurer?

I've been using Haggerty for 6 years. Agreed value that I'm comfortable with and excellent customer service for around $268/year. I also get a cool monthly newsletter that featured some Pontiacs last month.

I am in the insurance claims industry and after a lot of research, I chose Haggerty. I was pretty much a toss up between Grundy and Haggerty but Haggerty's policy with using the car to drive to work etc seemed more liberal than Grundy's. Neither want the car to be used as a daily driver but when I called Haggerty's claim department and spoke to a supervisor there, he said they had no exclusion for such use so a loss would likely be covered. My issue is I work with some gear heads and I would like to take my car to work every once in a blue moon. Haggerty said it would be more of an underwriting issue for them rather than a basis for denial of coverage. I was able to completely apply online as well. I have a $100K liability policy (I checked my personal auto policy and since I carry higher liability limits that I got from Haggerty, my personal policy applies as excess) and agreed value of $25,000, no deductible. I added trip interuption and under restoration coverage. My rate is $310/year.

wow hagerty seems to have a strong opinion here.
Curently I am with Infinity which has great prices but wont mean much if they dont honor a claim in the future. |
I've had Haggerty for years and I've always been happy with them. I had a claim several years back when my Lemans was hit in the side by an unmanned (unwomanned would be more correct:rolleyes:) Kia while parked at a cruise. Haggerty took care of everything, they paid the claim and then pursued her co. for reimbursement.

I've been with Condon & Skelly for 20 years. I have had only one glass claim. Very happy with the service, rate is very competative, a couple bucks lower that Haggerty when I checked them out at a car show a couple of years ago.

I have used American Collectors for 22 years. The one claim I made was for over $9,000 when I had an accident with my GTO. They settled the claim quickly and with no arguments. Paying it in full.

I had Grundy up to this year. I had no issues with them until last year and again this year.
Not a major issue but to me says a lot about how they operate. Last year I was driving and happen to look at the card and realized I was past due. I contacted them and it took about a week to get it straight. They gave me some lame bla bla bla and it didn’t coat me anything so I let it go. We’ll upon this season’s start up I once again realized I was past due but didn’t receive a notice (again) and called them to see what the problem was. They once again gave me all the bla bla bla and said they would get it corrected ASAP. Well that was several months ago and they still have not got back with me. I feel if they can’t even handle due notices I sure in hell don’t wish to find out how they handle claims. To me customer service is very important! I have since switched to Haggerty. |
As an independent agent in New York I can say that Heagerty has been great and has had caused no issues with any of my insureds claims. I have looked at all of the different classic car insurers but chose them for their ease of use, claims service, broad usage allowed and pricing. I have over 100 cars with them and have never had an issue. I insure my GTO there a well.

I use Haggerty, and have had 2 claims in the 10 years I have had them, 1 for a replacement windshield on a Cutlass I used to have, no money out of pocket, and 2 years ago I hit a Deer with my 78 Impala Wagon, they offered to look for parts, and started to look, when I found a complete rust free 4-door parts car 12 hours from me, I had to agree that getting this car fufilled all the parts requirements on their end, and they paid gas, hotel, and the price of the car.
I got a car that had all but 1 part I needed, had options my car did not have that I added to my wagon, retained the title to the parts car, sold off parts, and kept the $$$ when I scraped the remains. I thought that was the best customer service I have ever had from an insurance company. |
I ended up with American Collectors after doing research here- they received high marks and they have great rates to boot!

You never know how good a company is until you put in a claim. Sometimes price isn't the best reason for picking an insurance company.
|
Haggerty so far, but haven't made a claim yet.
|
American Collectors for the past 4 years, Never had to make a claim. Coverage is comprable to Haggerty and Grundy but premium is less. Claims Service is the ultimate deciding factor.
|
Someone else suggested american modern. The rates are quite reasonable- which is already a reason to be suspecious. Anyone have first hand with them?
|
my haggerty payment is due any day now. never have had a claim but my rate keeps going up . $314 this year up from $280something last year. agreed value has been at 17k for 6 years. kinda pissed about it right now.
