Best "Torque producing" intake for SBC?
 

My default choice is probably an Edelbrock Performer, but there have been so many intakes made for the SBC over the years, I have to think there may be some better choices for a 327 or 350 from idle to & 4500 max. BTW, this would be the older style Chevy heads without center bolt valve covers. (It's for a marine application.)

From only idle to 4,500 you say, the edelbrock performer or the holley short dual plane stealth is a good choice, if you were taking it upstairs in the rpm range 3,500-8,500 the performer rpm or victor jr open plenium is a awsome intake. We run a super victor jr on our 434 sb on our dirt late model, those are for big cube big rpm motors.

The higher the intake, the more torque, USUALLY. However restricting exhaust flow and timing makes a huge difference ( truck or RV cams). Truck heads have restricted exhaust ports for this reason. Higher PLASTIC intakes is how GM increased the Torque rating on the same engine over the years. RPM is limited to 4500 in these cases usually for any real power.

The earliest Performer intake is probably what you need. A couple of years after they started the performer production Edelbrock changed the runners, made the smaller.

A stock, non EGR iron intake works well also, believe that or not....

Phil, if you've seen pic's of the P4B that Cliff is going to try on his engine, the runners on the early performers look much like those.

The smaller runners were probably introduced for use on the 305, nothing makes a 305 better, well maybe as a boat anchor...
