70 GP tach/clock

Usually over at the 68-69 Gto area, but had a question for you GP guys/gals. I understand the Rally gauges for the GP's had a blue lens inside that differed from the A body's yellowish white backlighting. I just want to confirm that the 70 GP in-dash tach and in-dash clock also had the blue lens in them. Are they hard to come by if so? Any chance someone could snap a picture of one or the other while lit up?

Thanks, Jeff

Yes they are blue , there are blue plastic covers that fit over the bulbs. I think i have some of them some were .

This is a clock from a '69, the dash has the same insert and yes the '70 is the same... sorry, no lit up pic.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was actually able to look at a 70 GP clock last night as well. The only differences between the 69 and 70 is the 69 housing has the fully enclosed holes like GpFreak shows where the 70 has slotted mounting holes to allow you to rotate the clock into position behind the dash over getting the holes perfectly lined up before getting the screws in.

I'm contemplating converting all my gauges over to the blue backlighting in my Gto since the Rally gauges I have in there now have it and my in-dash tach does not. I know blue isn't correct for a Gto, but I sure like the lighting better! I bought the Rallys at a swap meet not knowing the differences between GP and GTO lighting (plus it's got a 140 speedo... oops).

Does that mean it's fast now because it has Gp parts!:D

(Musta slipped with the meany face on my previous post:confused:)

Maybe not any faster.. but ... sophisticated  Didn't even notice the meanie face, no sweat.

While I'm thinking about it, was a hood tach an option on a GP?

69gtocv 07-14-2011 07:23 PM

After some thread searching, it appears it was a dealer installed option only. I take it they wouldn't have been blue backlit since that would have been hard to see.

david400 07-14-2011 07:38 PM

Correct , the tach lite was not blue.

Thank you

I thought the 70 clock did not have the three sets of numbers like the 69? Am I mistaken?

GpFreak 07-18-2011 12:26 PM

Nope, same same.

I guess it is the 70 or 71 A bodies then, I often see clocks on eBay that are missing those extra numbers

69gtocv 07-18-2011 02:51 PM

I believe you are right in that the 70 A body clocks got rid of the extra blue set of letters. I have a 72 A body clock and it doesn't. What about 71 GP clocks? Were they still the same as 71 A bodies but still used the blue lenses?
