dont think so.. post a link to that post.. they are having the yellowbllet nationals in sept which is a huge event. 10,000 to win outlaw 10.5. there will be 35 + cars for that class.. 5,000 to win outlaw drag radial, probably have 20 there. X275 5,000 to win will have 40 + cars in that class and 8.50 index, 5,000 to win 40 + cars too.. going to be one hell of an event.

Doubt it. It's in a rural area and is incredibly popular, so I don't see how they could be closing.

I sure hope not... But Sunday attendance is WAYYY down, most Sunday braket races are done between 1:30 and 2:30 on a good week when we used to be there untill 6:00 on a normal day and later if another area track had a speacial event like this weekends Super Chevy Show @ Maple, then all of thier racers would come to Cecil. With a hurting economy, I still say the worse thing a non-necessity function can do is raise prices, Cecils entry fees go up every year! And the race fuel at Cecil is ridiculous! with a $10.00 average while Maple still sells Cam 2 and Purple is still under $7.00 a gallon. Cecil also switched to that crappy new cheaper traction compound that everyone has trouble with while Maple went back to VHT, Maple has lower entry fees too! That's why Dad and I are switching to Maple.

I doubt it but hopefully not true cause its a popular track on the east coast!

our RAM racing event was at Maplegrove last Sunday and the bracket program had maybe 40 cars. they were done at 1:30..its hard to believe thats all the cars that were there but the economy is hurting..
BTW if you were at the last race which was the ultimate outlaws the track was like glue.. Halsey and there crew have finally figured out what to do with the compound.. hopefully it stays that way.. it will get back to the old "traction capitol of the east coast" ..LOL

However when I lived in NY we had a very popular track close. 2 big factors 3 seasons of bad weather on race days during a terrible economic period during the Carter years. Owner simply ran out of money and was forced to sell it.(bankrupt) Guy who bought it was into dirt track stuff and tore out part of the drag track and the entire paved oval on the property. Also used some of the property for his construction company. Pretty sad. The dirt track is still in operation but facing noise/dust complaints as the area nearby grows. If that doesnt drive him out taxes/insurance could.
The race track business can be very tough to survive and prosper.

I think it would make sense to lower track fees and race gas to get more racers to run at their track. Like I always say "Everything goes up but our paychecks."

Bwaaaaaa !! I can't think of any media that is better than the internet at spreading and maintaining rumors. I run at three different tracks fairly close to my home. Each has had similar "we are closing" rumors flying about for years. My fear is that some day they may be true !!

Racers are not going to the tracks because the entry fees are to high,they are struggling to pay mortgage and feed kids,all three tracks in Jersey have lower car counts since 2008 season ,the economy is bad so disposible money is short,The race tracks are struggling to.Bill C.

How about a little good news. Just ran the Night of Thunder event at National Trail Raceway in Columbus Ohio last night. A track that simply can't get racers or spectators in the facility on a typical weekend. The track manager said at the conclusion of the event at 2:00 AM that this was the highest attendance event they have had in 5 years. The place was packed to the house. It's all about having cars that people actually want to see that packs the stands. I know as racers we don't all love these cars ourselves, but the average or casual drag race fan wants to see exactly what they delivered. Nitro fuel altereds, alcohol and nitro nostalgia funny cars, weird match races, and Nostalgia Super Stocks. Finishing up with jet match races and Bob Moats. A couple of nights like this a year can float a track like National Trails the rest of the season for the "serious" weekend racer and keep the doors open. A smart track owner/operator should understand this and provide a mix of events for spectators AND "serious" racers to be successful. Of course a few rainouts of special events can screw up the whole deal for the year. I put serious in quotes because even though we are "part of these shows" we are serious about Pontiac Performance. The Grocery Getter ran a 4.95, 4.94, 4.93 in our three runs at over 144 MPH, in 3600 ft air.
