That Trans Am looks very nice.

Could you get a close ratio 4 speed and a/c?

Ram4king 08-31-2011 11:19 PM

I dont think so.

It seems that the only time I see M20 is in 3.55 rears every other rear seems to have an M21. I was also under the impression that the rear had to be 3.23 or less to get A/C. This to prevent the A/C compressor from crapping out. Not an expert at this. Just what I observe.

I just read on another PHS website, that the 70 Trans Am with A/C was not available with the M20. The standard rear was 3.55 not 3.23. I would like to hear that someone checked it out. I have no more room without moving something, but I am no expert and it seems like a very fair price. It would be a great cousin to my 70 Judge, but I am just dreaming.:D

..his ad does say close ratio (M21) ...

The standard rear axle on a/c cars was a 3.31, in fact, I'm pretty sure it was required. I know an M20 was available on a/c cars because I owned one. I just didn't know if you could get the close ratio trans on a/c cars.

Nope... no close ratio trans with A/C cars. Not only was 3.31 standard, but that's all you could get - no optional ratios available. And if you wanted the M21 trans, Pontiac mandated 3.73 gears.

Nevertheless, this is a cool car. How many cars this original, including window sticker, have any of us seen...? From my perspective, few enough that it makes putting a value on it a bit more difficult than with the normal fare...

Reckon it would spin those polyglas tires? Very special car/history to be one owner. Neat piece.

The break used to be at 3.90 gears on A-Body cars...not that well-versed on the F_Bodies...but never have seen an air car with a close-ratio box. JMHO. Ron
