trying to figure out a rare piece of documentation
 

I have what I believe to be a rare piece of documentation. I got it with my 70 RA III Judge, that I bought from the original owners. I got a ton of stuff, but the one thing I have never seen and don't know what to call, puzzles me. I will try to get a picture up later, but this is what it is.

It is a computer like card (reminds me of a country club chit) that has the cars vin on it and says that it is for storage.

here is what it says. "Shipping department storage location"
along the top in build sheet like boxes and type are Model (24237) year (0) F. C. O. (609161) ??? Serial (my vin) IG Key (XXXX) ? Key (XXXX)

on the side it says General Motors of Canada Limited

anyone ever seen one???

No never seen one like that.
Have seen some other computer punch looking pieces, but not like you describe.

Was it built at Oshawa plant (2423701), or USA plant (242370P etc...)

Do you know if they Special Ordered it, or took delivery of one pre-built from a zone storage lot ?

It is an Oshawa built car. I think it was ordered, per the handwritten history from the original owners.
I am working on a copy of it, I need to block out #s etc and find the time to do it.
Been swamped...hopefully tonight....

While this car has amazing documentation and full history, this piece I have never seen before and think it is really cool.
Vin and key codes (which work by the way) have been blanked out.

I have only seen mine. The fact that it has VIN, color, and key codes, makes it awfully cool in my book.
What do you think F.C.O. is?

Can you post the buildsheet and/or the PHS on this car?

I'd say it was used to keep track of the car as it was transported and/or stored.

The 609161 may possibly be on the buildsheet.

Its similar to a sales bank card. Cars were stored all over different lots for use by dealers in a sales zone to restock their inventory. This card looks like it tells the lot man where to find the car. Thsi looks like the initial one used to tell lot man where to find the car for shipment by rail elsewhere. Unusual piece of history seldom found as it would have to survive lot clean up and PDI.

At the Framingham BOP plant in 1972, there was a holding area for cars that needed repairs that could not be fixed on the line. That card kept track of the car before shipping so the problem could be fixed.

Yea, Uhm I can still read the punch holes, to know your VIN & Key codes. How original (doors, trunk, glovebox, IGN switch) did you say the car is? :bolt:

Since it says "GM of Canada Limited" preprinted on the side it would seem to relate to the assembly plant rather than a dealership.

I've never seen a card like that before, btw. Any of the plants I've been in use the inspection/repair ticket, in conjunction with strategic placement to designate where the car has to go and what repairs remain.

My guess is a rail or truck shipping document, having nothing to do with repairs but indicating where the car is staged and that it is ready to go ("track", "tri level" and "deck" sound like railhead shipping terms to me).

defintely from Oshawa, and nothing to do with damage (WTF??) This is a locator for shipping. The ORIGINAL window sticker has a few variations from PHS. 1 is the port of entry, Buffalo New York. And I know it came to Pennsylvania by rail, because it is documented in the hand written history from the original woman and her husband that I purchased the car from, 11 years ago.
I am going to stake the claim that this is the, or one of the, most documented Judges out there.
Anyone who claims diferent, will need to have ORIGINAL documents that include all mine, and more. Good luck with having a log book by the original owners that documents every time fuel was put in the car, the mileage and the cost per gallon...covering it's whole life till I bought it....
in hindsight, I should have left this car a survivor, it was in great shape with 95%+ original paint!

So here is the list of provenance on this 39,430 mile car with all major orignal components including interior and glass, except for carpet, package tray and radiator.

PHS and PHS window sticker (woopee)
Original window sticker
Original protecto plate
Original selling dealer sales invoice with $25 charge for "dealer added hood locks" becasue of this paperwork, car retains original hood pins!!
Original partial sheet with codes, found under rear springs
Scan of original title (state kept original)
GM of Canada storage and shipping locator computer card with codes
hand done log book of all fuel fill ups. mileage, cost and cost per gallon through original owners total use of the car. entries for change to high test or blend and replacement of timing belt.
Ziebart reciept on the SAME day as purchase (because of this paperwork, car retains yellow caps over entry points, after restoration)
Ziebart 2 year/20k mile inspection receipt with 8xxx miles documented, which lines up with personal log book
Original loan documents
Original initial insurance documents
Original registration
all but 1 or 2 subsequent regsitrations
Proof of insurance, starting in the 80s when required
Original manual and pouch
Original dealer inspection sheet
Original ignition hanger
Original warranty card with full owner information
receipt for replacement battery (82)
receipt for replacement tire (80)
Pictures of owners with the car at same house they lived in since they bought the car new!! ALL paperwork has same address and owner's names
hand written history, written by original owner, of purchase, use and care of car and when sold to me

All that documentation can be faked;)
Seriously, that's an impressive amount of documentation. Usually the quickest way to find another car with more documentation is to say you have the most documented.

lol! That is why i figured I would throw it out there here, see who else had an anal retentive original owner.
As far as fakes, I know it was said with a wink, but I can assure you, I flew to PA and met these people, inspected the car and got all the documentation right from there old files in there old house. It was a neat story. I have before shots I can share, when I get to my other computer.
